    i use ai identification tools like merlin and inaturalist extensively in my naturalist practice, but i feel pretty strongly about there being a proper way to use them to get the best results. read my post about it in replies :)

    was going through some of my old unidentified inaturalist records and came across a plant i saw in the mountains of SE arizona. i tried comparing it to ID'd members of the genus nearby until i realized that someone had taken better photos of the EXACT SAME PLANT the day before
