    This is well said. I understand why some journalists and normal folks may not get the point of academic freedom to voice controversial (and bad!) ideas. But seeing academics themselves (pretending?) not to get it has been extremely depressing to me.

    Seeing some arguments for firing Cofnas like this one, that (scare quotes) academic freedom should not apply to pseudo-scholarship and taxpayers shouldn't fund scholar-activism. I think this is wrong. /1

    Do folks realize that it is not 2020 anymore and that you can't just call people you don't know or understand but seem to disagree with "racist"? It's just not how adults are supposed to resolve their disagreements. Cambridge is already an embarrassment. No need to add to it.

    It is kind of charming that all the racists are outing themselves. By racists here I mean people who appear to thing 'race science' and 'race realism' are actual disciplines because human beings are fundamentally biologically different from each other.

    This is the first open letter I've signed. I encourage all academics who still care about higher ed's credibility to do the same. We're at a crossroads now: if we can't uphold basic academic freedom even for those whose views we find despicable, we won't agree on anything else.
