    You can train your way out of self-criticism. A 2021 review pooled 19 randomized trials, 1,350 people. The ones who did self-compassion training dropped their self-criticism below the controls, a medium-sized drop. Longer programs beat short ones. doi.org/10.1002/cpp.25…

    You get less avoidant as you get older. Researchers tracked 628 people from age 13 to 72, some for 59 yrs. People kept getting less avoidant the whole way. Anxiety peaked in their 20s, then fell. Both ran lower for people in a relationship. doi.org/10.1037/pspp00…

    Therapy moved fastest when people did the homework. 17 CBT trials & 2,312 clients, pooled in a 2016 meta-analysis. How much homework clients did drove better outcomes. Later on, doing it well counted about twice as much as doing a lot. doi.org/10.1016/j.beth…

    Overthinking speeds up memory loss as you age. In a 2020 study, 292 older adults got scored on how much they spiral. 113 also got brain scans. The higher the score, the faster memory dropped & the more plaque showed up. It held after adjusting for other stuff.
