This proposal is about aligning rewards to where coverage is most valued and making sure Hotspot deployers are rewarded in a way that scales with the Network.

NEW: HIP-150 aims to pay mobile Hotspot deployers more for the coverage they provide.
Context 📖
Right now, Hotspot deployers are guaranteed 50% of the burned rate for the data their Hotspot serves. That’s supposed to be a safety net, a minimum. But it’s become the norm for
Restaurants 🧑🍳
Hotels 🛏️
Apartment complexes 🏙️
Municipal buildings 🏛️
All can enable Wi-Fi they already own for Helium, earning revenue + improving coverage for nearby phone users.
Carriers need that indoor coverage so their customers experience better connectivity 📶.
Why do carriers even need to use Wi-Fi from venues?
➡️ Big carriers either struggle to get signal to their customers indoors, where cell towers can't reach, or there are too many people using their towers at once. Or both.
The solution? Offload customers onto Wi-Fi.
