The response rate to the JOLTS survey has dropped to just above 30% from around 58% pre pandemic. We need to view these numbers with caution & not to place too much emphasis on the report with trying to gauge the labor market health & needs to be viewed with other data points.

The labor market is cooling but not cracking. Today’s US JOLTS report: Hires: -278K MoM Quits: -157K MoM Layoffs/discharges: -119K MoM Truflation’s US Employment Index tells a similar story: employment was nearly flat YoY as of Aug 8.
