I think I found a way to make a React Native list component with significantly better performance than FlashList, with 100% javascript. I'm still testing it but as far as I can tell there’s no pitfalls or issues… It just requires the new architecture for synchronous onLayout.

Coming soon, a big rewrite of Legend List that: - is much simpler internally - improves performance - makes initialScrollIndex and scrollToIndex/End perfectly accurate - fixes many bugs - deletes 10% of the code - takes mount time from pretty fast to ZERO

Legend List 0.3.0 now has 0 dependencies and is just 3kb gzipped. I replaced Legend State with a tiny signaling system that does the same optimizations. And optimized a few more things too, so it's even faster 😀 ✨ 100% JavaScript ✨ 0 dependencies ✨ 3kb ✨ Fast!

LegendList 2.0.12 is much faster than earlier versions, so I recommend updating ❤️ It now runs tighter loops, does less math, and better uses scroll velocity to predict what will be in view next frame. So it leaves more frame time for your components to render ✨

I first had the crazy idea to try to make a faster list library almost a year ago! And after a full rewrite for v2, and tons of optimizations through to the latest 2.0.12, I'm very pleased that Legend List is really fast 🎉

Legend List 0.1 is ready to test! This is an early version to see how well it works in real apps so please post issues and/or PRs 🙏. It’s only ~600 lines so it should be easy to understand and tweak. ✨ 100% JS ✨ Fast ✨ Dynamic sizing ✨ Works in both new and old arch

I finally cracked my Legend List web white whale - infinitely scrolling up with dynamic sizes, loading more pages on demand while scrolling. With no blank spaces, scroll jumping, or jank. It's looking very promising 🎉 It's still early but you can try it now in 2.1.0-beta.1
