We take it out of its relatively simple packaging to and put it to the test in several games, how it functions with Steam Big Picture Mode, and more.

All three devices are specifically optimized for Steam and will have access to a user’s wider Steam Library. Starting with the redesigned Steam Controller with a suite of modern features, 35 hours of playtime, and a handy Puck included in the packaging for easy connectivity and charging. The Steam Machine is back, offering a console-like form factor with the power to play your Steam Library with 4K gaming at 60 FPS with AMD FSR. The third-addition to the Steam hardware family is the Steam Frame, the next generation of VR technology offering a comfortable design, the ability to stream VR and non-VR games from your Steam Library through a wireless dongle, and more. The Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame are launching in 2026.

9 months, 3 weeks - Valve has resurrected the Steam Machine, this time aiming to make a splash to own a corner of the PC market with a console-like PC meant to be a part of your living room. After the success of the Steam Deck, Valve is spinning up a family of Steam branded hardware in an effort to create an ecosystem that gives you access to your Steam Library pretty much anywhere you are. Designed to easily run most modern games at 4K, 60fps, the Steam Machine does not yet have a price, though you can expect it to be "competitively" priced to similarly spec'd hardware. An example of that hardware is a PC with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU. The Steam Machine release date is still an unknown with an expectation to launch in early 2026 alongside the Steam Frame and the new Steam Controller. At the heart of the new Steam hardware family is SteamOS, exactly as it is on the Steam Deck.

9 months, 3 weeks - Roughly 10 years since the first Steam Controller, the uniquely impressive but ultimately unpopular controller that launched alongside Valve's first Steam Machine initiative, the company is back with a new version. We visited Valve and went hands-on with the new PC controller to see if they got it right this time. (Spoiler alert: They did.)
