Our Mission

The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) was founded in 2002 on a conviction that design knowledge should be made accessible on a massive, affordable scale. It was locked inside elite institutions concentrated in the Western intellectual hemisphere. World-class design education was a privilege reserved for the few who could afford it.

We believed this was fundamentally wrong. Great design has transformative potential. It shapes how people interact with technology, services, and each other. Anyone who learns design has the power to change how the world works.

We saw a world full of untapped design talent with no affordable way to learn. That conviction led us to pioneer online video-based courses a full decade before online learning became mainstream.

24 years later, our mission has not changed. It is to help you:

1. Build timeless skills
that impact your career

Human-centered design is the foundation of every great product, service, and experience ever built. These are the principles that compound over a career and don't get replaced by tools or technologies.

2. Build skills in a fast-growing profession

As AI reshapes every industry, the demand for designers is rising. In fact, the World Economic Forum reports UX and UI designers are fast-growing professions, with 45% projected growth by 2030.

3. Get career outcomes, not just finish a course

IxDF brings your learning and career into one place: courses, career programs, job matching, and chapters in 496 cities where designers meet, hire, and help each other.

4. Learn from industry leaders through evidence-based curricula

Our faculty includes experts from companies like Google, Meta, NASA, and Adobe, and professors from Stanford, MIT, and Cambridge. Our singular focus on design allows us to build curricula of depth and rigor.

5. Combine AI and Human-Centered Design

Combine AI skills with timeless design expertise that AI can't replace. Skills like empathy, ethical reasoning, and critical thinking are deeply human, and no technology can replace them.

6. Use design skills to become more valuable in any job, any industry

Design skills are for everyone. Behind every great product, service, and experience is someone who understands the people using it. IxDF teaches you to be that person, whatever your job title.

7. Meet the right people and get a place to belong

The people you meet shape the career you build. Our community spans 496 cities in 107 countries. Members meet locally and globally to learn together, mentor each other, and open doors for one another.

8. Earn credentials that the industry respects

Industry giants trust our courses to train their teams, and prestigious universities integrate our content into their curricula. IxDF Course certificates prove you've learnt from industry leaders through evidence-based curricula.

9. Build services and products that make users smile and businesses grow

Companies that invest in great design outperform the S&P 500 by 228%. When you can tie your design work to business results, you're bringing measurable value.

10. Make the world a little more human

Apply your design skills to improve the quality of life for humankind. The world is full of technology that frustrates, excludes, and dehumanizes. Every person we help train makes the world a little more human.
