    People believe this and believe everywhere is "overtouristed" and that is only because they haven't bothered to try to go to the 99% of the world that does not fit this description. "Skill issue", as the kids say.

    I am shocked, shocked to find out that a productivity-enhancing, investment-supporting technology is good for workers. (Knowing nothing else this should be your prior, because this is how productivity in competitive markets almost always works.)

    Really enjoy this from Sean - many good things about Carney (the focus on growth), but as with the EU (and Trumpism!), "policy adventurism" where state thinks 10 people plus a bureaucracy will cause growth is just totally wrong. The best "investment policy": returns to investors!

    Perhaps if monitoring/alignment were required for any served frontier model "to the best commercially available level", you can induce a ton of demand for firms to serve this need. Can imagine many ways regulation can shape market demand here without totally killing innovation.

    Gillian and I wrote this chapter in mid-2025 but the technology wasn't quite there yet so we were forced to do some 'sci fi economics'. We now have enormously powerful AI agents but there are still many open questions. Here's a few:
