What did Cash for Clunkers do? Not much. Attempting to stimulate demand by buying up old cars and giving rebates for fuel-efficient ones simply led to people pulling forward the date of consumption, without any long run difference. 1/

The thing which undermines free market reforms of healthcare markets is that consumers hate thinking about it. Like, they really hate thinking. Mailing a letter, as opposed to information existing on a website, increased plan switching by 64%, saving hundreds. 1/
