A function on an indexed column silently defeats the index. We learned that the hard way today when a third party campaign hit our verification form and every lookup seq-scanned 7M rows. One CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY later: seconds to 0.015 ms. 🧵

bruh. today was a day. wrote a new app, had 2,500 concurrent visitors. processed nearly 1k orders in an hour. redis broke, corrupted 300 orders, but salvaged 230 of them. realized my tiny redis cache was not sufficient any longer.
