What is SBSS?

The Section on Bayesian Statistical Science (SBSS) of the ASA provides a forum for statisticians and people who have interest in the Bayesian paradigm. The broad objectives of the Section are: to encourage research on theory and methods of statistical inference and decision making associated with Bayes' theorem and to encourage the application and proper use of Bayesian procedures in the behavioral, biological, managerial, engineering, environmental, legal, medical, pharmaceutical, physical, and social sciences.

We hope you can take part in JSM 2027! 

  • The 2027 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) will take place August 8 - 12 in Chicago, Illinois.
  • The deadline for invited session proposals will be in September 2026. Please check back for updates.
  • The deadline for the SBSS student paper competition will be November 15, 2026.

Other upcoming events that may be of interest to SBSS members:

  • BayesComp 2027 will be held May 18 - 20, 2027, in College Station, Texas. The deadline for invited session proposals is August 15, 2026.


JSM 2026 recap

We had a very successful JSM 2026 in Boston! Thanks to all of you who took part.

  • SBSS sponsored a variety of events showcasing the strength of the Bayesian research community, including:
    • 2 short courses
    • 1 lunch roundtable
    • 4 invited paper sessions
    • 8 topic-contributed paper sessions
    • 13 contributed paper sessions
    • 2 contributed poster sessions
  • In addition, we held the annual executive and business meeting/mixer.
