It looks like the two nuget packages above are for the library sets for F# 3.0+ and F# 3.1+. Presumably a third would be needed for F# 4.0+ when it comes.

But what would the layout of a combined nuget package look like? It doesn't seem that nuget lets you pivot on the additional dimension of the version of the F# language, just "net40", "net45", the profiles and so on.

It would be normal NuGet packages. Instead of these:

nuget install FSharp.Core.4.3.0.0.Microsoft.Signed -version 3.0.0
nuget install FSharp.Core.4.3.0.0.Microsoft.Signed -version 3.0.0.1
nuget install FSharp.Core.Microsoft.Signed -version 3.1.1

We would do one of these:

nuget install FSharp.Core -version 3.0.0
nuget install FSharp.Core -version 3.0.0.1
nuget install FSharp.Core -version 3.1.1

And when 4.0 comes out:

nuget install FSharp.Core -version 4.0.0
nuget install FSharp.Core -version 4.0.1

They would each still contain their relevant platforms:

I see, that's reasonable.

One (very annoying) problem is that AFAIK Visual Studio tooling doesn't let you select a specific version of a package in the "Manage Nuget Packages" UI, which means you would have to adjust the packages.config by hand, resync etc.

Could you send a PR to this repo to adjust the nuget package specification files (to get it reviewed before you publish the package)?

Specifically, replace/rename the files here: https://github.com/fsharp/fsharp/tree/master/FSharp.Core.Nuget with a two of files - one for 3.0 (including FSharp.Core 4.3.0.0) and 3.1 (including FSharp.Core 4.3.1.0). As far as I understand it they should essentially just consolidate the same contents to one package name with appropriate package versions?

I think it remains as is, but should also be equivalently fleshed out with the full version ranges (i.e. it should be the same, but with the additional delay signed DLLs for the mono-only Android/iOS profiles).

I think it would be great if we created a FSharp.Core 3.1.2 that were the exact redistributable binaries from the Visual F# release. Same with in 3.1.1 and the 4.0 previews. I'll submit a proposal probably tomorrow. Here are the version information I dug up today:
