Wanted to be the boss of all init systems, ended up as an office suite: systemd-resolved, systemd-oomd, systemd-logind, systemd-sysusers, systemd-homed and more mess in logs, tmp files, mounted volumes and soon boot loader! Egomaniac, or simply deaf?

Devuan removed /etc/machine-id in 2019 because we knew. lists.dyne.org/lurker/thread/… Any project competent enough to ship a distro either knows what undeclared user tracking enables, or is useful to those who do. Those who knew and lied should be held accountable.

We did predict this such a long time ago that most links are dead slashdot.org/story/364072 😅 but please know in Devuan we do not allow /etc/machine-id to track our users.

systemd timers: because nothing says “modern init” like a job that can be enabled, active, logged, boot-aware… and still not have done the work.
