    Say cheese, Earth and Moon! 📸 One of our two Mars-bound ESCAPADE spacecraft captured Earth and the Moon from 363,250 miles (584,600 kilometers) away. In visible light, both worlds appear as slim crescents. But switch to thermal infrared and it’s a different picture 👇 🧵1/2
    Against black space, Earth appears at left as a thin white-green crescent lit along its right edge. The Moon, slightly smaller and dimmer, sits at upper right as a matching tan crescent lit on the same side. Only a sliver of each world catches sunlight; the rest of both disks is lost in darkness.

    Although NASA's MAVEN mission recently ended, scientists are still making discoveries from 11+ years of spacecraft data. Just today, researchers reported signs that some kinds of auroras on Mars form in a similar way to Earth-based auroras. go.nasa.gov/4vOm6HJ

    Hot inside and out! 🌋 NASA’s Juno mission has provided the first measurements of the temperature below the surface of Jupiter’s moon Io, revealing significant heating within the subsurface of the solar system's most volcanically active world. 1/2
    The north polar region of Jupiter’s volcanic moon Io has Io's characteristic reddish surface mottled with dark volcanic pools and isolated mountain peaks.
