It's exactly my thinking. AI made 80%+ of existing SaaS obsolete (hence many SaaS is slowly dying), but also created plenty opportunities for new kinds of software. However, my 10 yrs of SWE experience gives me significantly less advantage vs. 3 yrs ago, and it's going to zero.

I don't think AI will eliminate indie hackers. It's true that my 10 years of SWE experience has become more and more irrelevant because AI can now do most of it, but looking back, my SWE skills were only a small part of being an indie hacker. The most important part is still

There are a lot of values (created by AI) to package into an easy-to-use software and to distribute it to an audience that doesn't know how to use ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini to their highest potentials.

I'm not sure if indie hacking is dead, but SaaS is definitely on its way to. It doesn't mean software is dying, things are changing drastically at an insane speed, we just gotta adapt. But it's also possible that big AI will kill all software and we'll all become farmers. 🤷

Building for developers used to be startup in hard mode, because developers can and like to build stuff themselves. Building for developers in the AI era is a dead zone. It’s faster for developers to ask their agents to do stuff than to learn how to use a new product.
