How Snapchat+ Solar System Work?
You only can see planet in your friends profile, if you are in their close friends list. When you check a friend’s profile, you might see a Best Friends badge with a gold ring. If you tap on it, it reveals your planet.
Snapchat shows 8 different color planets with each planet have different rank and meaning. Simply the color of planets describes your position from 1 to 8.
For example, if you see Earth, that means you are their #3 best friend as Earth is on third number in the solar system.
Important Note:
when snapchat started showing you on the planet and your friend as the sun, some of you got confused in if this shows my position in their best friends list or their position in my bsf list. The simple answer is, it shows your rank in your friend’s top 8 friends list not the other way around.
Friend Solar System Privacy Explained
After months of user confusion about planet meanings and visibility, Snapchat’s Newsroom released an official explainer on 05 April 2024. Here are the key points:
- Only for You: It shows your position in a friend’s Solar System, but no one else’s, you won’t see other friends’ planets.
- Not a Public Ranking: Your planet isn’t visible to anyone else (not even that friend). It’s just a fun way to see how close you are to them.
- Why Snapchat Added It: Because online friendships lack the natural cues we get in person (like inside jokes or hangouts), the Solar System gives extra context about your bonds.
Fun Fact: Less than 0.25% of Snapchatters use this daily, so if you see a planet, you’re part of lucky group.

Profile shows best friend badge but there is no planet?
If you’re only seeing the badge (but no planet), it’s probably because you talk to them a lot, but they talk to others more and you didn’t make it into their Best Friends list.
I only see my position for some of my best friends?
If someone is in your Best Friends list but you’re not in theirs, then you won’t see your planet position in their solar system.
Can I see my position in someone’s bsf list when they are not in my list?
You can still see your position in others best friend list even if they are not in yours. You can only see if you are in someone’s top 8 friends.
Want to prevent others from seeing their position in your bsf list?
If planets are turned on, they’ll be able to see which planet they are in your solar system, and you’ll see your position in theirs too. Unfortunately, there’s no setting to hide just your planet without turning off the whole Friend Solar System feature.
Will others know I have solar system on?
There is no indication that if someone is using solar system. However, they will know by seeing planet if they have snapchat+ with solar system feature on and best friends with you.
It does not show planet just says when we became friends?
The Snapchat Planet feature only shows up when:
- You both have Snapchat+
- You both have Friend Solar System turned on
- And you’re Best Friends with each other
How To See Planet In Friend’s Profile?
To see your friend’s planet on snapchat you must be using snapchat+ and enabled solar system option in settings. By default on first time subscribing snap+ it is off.
- Open Snapchat.
- Tap on your friend’s Bitmoji to open their profile.
- Tap Best Friends or Friends badge.
- Snapchat prompt will show you a planet.
There is also a minor difference between Best Friends and Friends badges.
Best Friend vs Friend Badge Meaning
You’ll notice a “Best Friends” or “Friends” badge with a gold outline when you look at a friend’s profile. The Best Friends badge indicates that person is in your top eight best friends. On the other hand, the Friends badge shows that you’re in their top eight friend list, but they aren’t in yours.
Extended Best Friends List vs Snapchat Planets List
Extended best friends list feature lets Snapchat+ subscribers see their top 16 friends (vs. the standard 8) ranked by interaction. It privately tracks weekly position changes (shows movers), visible only to you.

How to Enable Or Disable Snapchat Solar System?
There is a toggle switch to turn on or off the solar system in Snapchat plus settings.
- Open Snapchat.
- Tap on Your Bitmoji and open “Snapchat+” settings.
- Scroll down to solar system and tap the toggle switch.
The Snapchat Planets Controversy
