The NP problems are the ones whose answers can be efficiently graded. Thus, post-training an LLM is optimizing an algorithm in P to solve NP problems. So in a sense, working on P vs NP algorithms ended up solving a different one of the Millennium problems.

I am disappointed to see these mathematicians come out against the use of AI to solve major math problems. Math is important, not just a game for professors to play. We should learn what this powerful new tool is capable of, and discover many new things.

Some intellectual fields, like drug discovery and computer graphics, were once driven largely by academic research. As companies began investing heavily in them, the frontier migrated from academia to industry. The same thing could happen to mathematics.
