Caring for the carers
In 2018, I left IBM to start Amicus Brain, devoted to the mission of transforming the task of caregiving and elevating dementia care. Why? I get asked this all the time.
Around 2015, while I was the CTO of Cognitive Services at IBM I also began a new role, as a remote caregiver for my aging parents with neurodegenerative disorders. As I encountered challenges one after another as a caregiver, the stress, the burden and the burnout really hit home. I am not alone. I am one of 11 plus million Americans doing this.
There is a crisis of care for the aging population around the globe that spoke to me as I am drawn to working on important problems. I left IBM, started Amicus Brain with my life savings to address the very human problem of support for families living with dementia.
This is a perfect problem for technology to solve – using the power of AI to educate, advise, inform, support millions of families and simplify care management, save time and increase quality of life for the caregivers of the graying globe.
