Now I'm pondering the alternate reality where I didn't spill tea all over my beloved MacBook Air in 2019. I wonder how long I would've continued daily driving MacOS. The hardware would've been supported by Apple until 2021, but I wouldn't have been motivated to buy a new one at that point.

I guess I'm glad the events worked out the way they did.

I have a hard time relating too much to me-from-ten-years-ago that happily used Google Chrome, Google Drive, and typed all his notes in Microsoft Word. 😝

  • Loads #Fediverse notifications
  • @Tusky whimpers
  • Phone bursts into flames
  • Spacetime folds in on itself
  • I'm playing Pasur with Dave Bowman in the hotel room at the end of time
  • The unnerving space fetus is keeping score
  • Captain Picard's 42 palms are simultaneously placed on his forehead
  • The universe is singing its song to me:
"Oooolwayyyz look on the broight soide of loife....!"

@twizzay, I feel this toot was worthy of you.

As it is also his birthday, I cannot let it pass without also honoring his memory. He would have been 18 today. (Ok, that breaks my brain a little 😅)

To my dear #FloofSon Hobbes. My very own Puss in Boots. 😸💗

"Ok, roll."
"What am I rolling for?"
"A spell."
"But I'm not trying to cast a spell."
"I know. Roll anyway."
"Ok, there."
"Excellent! You cast UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING."
"WHAT?!? Why in the world would I cast that? I mean, I know how I'm feeling right now, I want to cast CONQUER FOES, DESTROY EVIL, END INJUSTICE, or heck, UNLIMITED BOON AT RANGE. I mean, if I'm casting anything right now, it should be BERSERKER RAGE AT SYSTEMIC INJUSTICE!!"
"Sorry, but you cast UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING."
"WHY!??"
"Give me another roll."
"FINE. There."
"You look it up your spell book, and apparently, UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING is the normal response to really awful world events when you still have a heart and soul."
"Huh. Dang. So... no BERSERKER RAGE AT SYSTEMIC INJUSTICE?"
"Not without trading in your soul."
"Ok, I guess I'll keep it."

"To achieve a stable flight without the need for fins, the rocket's heavy motor was located at the top, fed by lines from liquid oxygen and gasoline fuel tanks at the bottom."

Umm, actually, no. That's not how that works. That's what he intended to have happen, and it sounds like common sense, but this is actually the classic #PendulumFallacy of #rocketry:

Title: Robert Goddard and Nell

(No disrespect intended to Mr. Goddard. He was an epic pioneer, and the very best of us learn by making mistakes and analyzing the outcome to learn from them.)

I don't much like #WebMail, and I like #Google even less, but I gotta say that #Gmail's new Subscription manager is a game-changer.

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#sub

Gmail is no longer my primary email provider (thankfully), and I'm more than happy to pay out of my own pocket for email hosted by a reputable company, but I still have work email and my personal "junk drawer" email accounts hosted by the "don't be evil, lol" company. ;)

I remember in the olden days, before iCloud was much of a thing, the Notes app in MacOS and iOS would sync to your email account, so they were always in sync, and even somewhat viewable from your ordinary email client, IIRC.

Just curious, in case something happens to #SimpleNote or my favorite client, #sncli, is there a cross-platform solution for syncing notes with email? Something that can work on #Android, #GUI, and #TUI/command-line?

Ooof, I forgot that #knäckebröd expands in your stomach.

Not something you want to just inhale, even though it's really tasty and crunchy.

Silly me grew upon American "toast," that has about as much substance as, well, our cable news.

Ow. Urp. Ow.

#TIL that there are #UEFI-only computers being sold now with no legacy BIOS compatibility mode.

That kind of sucks for experimenting with alternative OSes.

I've heard there's a software shim in development to replace this lost functionality, but it's still very early/alpha/basic/incomplete.

Just a gentle reminder to go have a nice day at the park this July 4th ;)
(We won't have another Saturday July 4th for 11 years)

P.S., interestingly, it follows a repeating pattern of 11, 6, 5, 6:

rld@Intrepid:~$ y=0; for x in 1970 1981 1987 1992 1998 2009 2015 2020 2026 2037 2043 2048 2054 2065 2071 2076 2082 2093 2099; do ((y!=0)) && echo $((x-y)); y=$x; done

It seems that's the pattern for all repeating calendars. I tried the same with January, and it had the same pattern.

To all hopefuls, [never] [mind]. 😔

@artemchep

I noticed you have a very nice-looking alternative client for Keepass and BitDefender.

I couldn't find any statements on LLMs on the project page.

Do you have a policy? I think some folks would be very interested in a no-AI keepassxc alternative.

Thanks!
