How does Valamis personalize learning recommendations for each employee?
Valamis builds recommendations from each employee’s role profile, current skill levels, learning history, and development goals. The system compares where someone is against where their role requires them to be, and brings up content most likely to close that specific gap. Recommendations update as skills develop, so the same content won’t keep appearing once someone has moved on.
How is Valamis personalization different from a standard course catalog?
A catalog shows everyone the same content and leaves discovery to the learner. Valamis personalization shows each employee what is most relevant to them at this point in their development. A new sales hire and a senior engineer at the same company will see completely different recommendations. The catalog still exists, but the default experience is tailored to the individual.
What data does Valamis use to build personalized learning paths?
Role and job function, current skill levels (from self-assessments or manager input), learning completion history, declared career goals, and, in some configurations, performance data from integrated systems. The skill gap between where someone is and where their role requires them to be is the primary driver. Recommendations come from structured skills data. Valamis can also auto-generate skill frameworks from role and industry context, which feeds directly into what gets recommended.
Can managers in Valamis shape their team’s learning recommendations?
Yes. Managers can set development goals for individual team members, assign specific learning paths, and see what each person is working on. Manager input is a deliberate part of the personalization model. The system’s skill data and the manager’s direct knowledge of what someone needs in their role work together; each fills in what the other can’t see.
How does Valamis show whether personalized learning is closing skill gaps?
Through skills analytics. Valamis tracks skill levels before and after learning activity and shows progression over time at the individual, team, and organizational level. L&D leaders can see whether the gaps identified at the start of a program are actually narrowing, or whether completions are happening without measurable skill movement. The AI Insights update added clearer visualizations and new User Activity filters that make it easier to reach this data without digging through reports.
Does Valamis support different personalization logic for different employee groups?
Yes. Personalization rules in Valamis can be configured differently for different populations: compliance-first paths for regulated roles, development-focused programs for identified high-potential employees, upskilling tracks for specific teams going through a technology transition. Each population gets a model that fits what it actually needs.
