Years spent crafting experiences using context, color, type, and rectangles. Discovering solutions to tough problems via human-centric & curious explorations.
By rethinking the approach to content publishing and redeveloping key workflows, I reduced time spent setting up ExpressionEngine CMS, giving authors more time to spend creating and publishing content.

Why hire me? Permalink
You know aside from the wonderful design & development work I will provide to your team and projects. 😃
I’m kind; I’m optimistic in the face of cynicism; I’m pro-people; I’ve got great taste. I have the experience to know what to do and the wisdom to double check.
In other words, I’m experienced enough to move fast, and disciplined enough to get it right—because, I care deeply about the work and the people involved.
In my own words Permalink
What’s mine is yours. I share, so we can learn and grow together. An off-site backup of my brain’s central database in order to make room for more.
As design system principal and leader for many years, I obviously have a lot of opinions, beliefs, and thoughts about how you build, maintain, and curate them toward successful adoption and organizational impact.

A coworker’s kindness Permalink
I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with and for some really nice people. I’m very grateful for their time spent to consider and impart these kind words.
I’m a Senior Developer at Augmentir, and I’ve worked with James for two years implementing the features he designs. His handoffs are some of the best I’ve dealt with. He walks through each feature in Figma, covering every scenario a user could run into — all the logic, all the edge cases, not just the happy path. I leave our meetings knowing how the user flows through the interface and exactly what to build.
His vision isn’t limited to the short term. He leaves room for where he wants the UX to go down the road, and it shows in how he works — his versioning is highly organized, so the path from current state to future direction is easy to follow. That foresight means the things we build today don’t box us in later; they’re set up to extend cleanly as the product grows.
He’s also pragmatic, which makes him very easy to work with. He has strong opinions but holds them loosely. He’ll push to get the implementation close to the design—when we pull an off-the-shelf component that doesn’t quite match, we’ll go back and forth to close the gap—but he also understands engineering has constraints and isn’t precious about pixel-perfection at the expense of shipping. He works great with whoever he’s paired with.
Any team would be lucky to have him.
