Vale Brazil

We started our operations in 1942, in Itabira, Minas Gerais. Since then, we have come a long way to become one of the largest mining companies in the world. In Brazil, we operate not only in the mining sector, but also in logistics –with railways and ports – in the generation of energy to supply part of the operational demand, in the steel industry and in various social, cultural and environmental projects through the Vale Cultural Institute, the Vale Foundation, the Vale Fund, the Vale Institute of Technology, among others.

A group of eight people wearing safety helmets and high-visibility vests stands behind a yellow barrier, observing an open-pit mining operation. The mine has multiple levels with winding roads and heavy machinery such as trucks and excavators working on different levels. There is also a small body of water visible in the lower left part of the mine.

What do we do?

Aerial view of a large open-pit mine with terraced levels and winding roads. There is a turquoise-colored water body at the bottom of the pit. The surrounding area includes more roads and some vegetation in the distance.

Mining

In Brazil, we work with iron ore and pellets, nickel, manganese and ferroalloys and copper. In the southeast of Pará, we have the largest mining complex in Vale's history, the S11D Eliezer Batista.
A group of people in an office setting. There are several desks with computers, and people are working on them. One person is standing and holding a white hard hat, while others are seated at their desks. The room has large windows with blinds partially drawn, allowing natural light to enter.

Logistics

We have a vast logistics infrastructure in the country, operating ports and railways. Our rail network includes two long-distance passenger trains.
A large hydroelectric dam with water flowing through its spillways. The structure is made of concrete and is situated in a mountainous area. Two workers are visible on the right side of the image, standing near a yellow railing that runs along the edge of the dam. The water below is a deep green color, indicating its depth and flow rate.

Energy

We have an energy generation portfolio comprising three of our own small hydroelectric plants (SHPs) and are present in the consortia of three hydroelectric plants and two generation companies.
An industrial facility with multiple large cylindrical structures, pipes, and towers. The facility appears to be a refinery or chemical plant, with complex piping systems and various metal structures. In the background, there is a mountainous landscape under a partly cloudy sky.

Steel industry

We have a stake in Companhia Siderúrgica de Pecém (CSP), the first steel slab plant in the Brazilian Northeast.

In addition to operations

One of our values is to “make it happen” and we know that this is not limited to our spaces. For this reason, we are constantly investing in the communities in which we operate, contributing to various topics.

One of our biggest commitments is to the Amazon rainforest, where we have been helping to preserve around 800,000 hectares for 30 years.

In cultural terms, we support projects spread throughout Brazil through the Vale Cultural Institute, such as Vale Música – which has existed for more than two decades – and we contribute to the management of museums and cultural spaces.

With the Vale Foundation, we contribute to the social development of the territories where we operate, by supporting education, promoting basic health, assuring rights and promoting social business transactions.

Thus, we improve life and transform the future. Together.
