Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park

Not long after i bought the Olympus Macro Flash System, I went to Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park to test out the system for outdoor macro photography...

The Butterfly Park houses more than 6,000 butterflies from 120 exotic species. The park is an imitation of the butterfly's natural habitat. It includes more than 15,000 plants from 100 species that has been painstakingly landscaped to resemble a Malaysian rainforest atmosphere. Contributing to the Butterfly Park's beautiful landscape is a uniquely designed hydro-pond built with a limestone path right in the centre. Surrounding this hydro-pond is a gazebo, commanding a breathtaking view. There is a nursery and breeding area for the butterflies. The park includes both preserved and live specimens, totaling 1,230 species in all. Facilities include an informative insect museum. There is also a souvenir shop near the exit selling lots of local handicrafts and framed butterflies and beetles. You can enjoy a glimpse of butterflies at this unique park. (Source: Cuti.com.my)

Not much useable photos from the outing as still learning to control the system. And the butterfly park did not have so much so-called 120 exotic species of butterfly flying around. Following are selected few. Enjoy...

Perdana Lake Gardens, Kuala Lumpur, Part 1: Landscape

Last week, my friend and I went to Perdana Lake Gardens (Taman Tasik Perdana) located in Kuala Lumpur to do some location survey for our coming potrait shootout. This trip is also my chance to really test out my new Zuiko Digital 35mm F3.5 Macro lens.

Taman Tasik Perdana or fondly known as the Lake Garden, is the oldest and most popular park in Kuala Lumpur. Its main attraction is the artificial lake surrounded by lush greenery in a 92ha. (227 acres) parkland that provides a refreshing ambience. The park also has jogging tracks and exercise stations, as well as children's playground. Attractions in the park include a Bird Park, Butterfly Park, Deer Park and an Orchid Garden, which are all reachable either by foot or by regular shuttle buses. From the gardens, you may also visit other attractions such as the National Monument, Parliament House and the Planetarium. (Source: VirtualMalaysia.com)

Following are some of the landscape shots i took during the visit. I can tell you that this is a very good landscape lens. Macro shots will be up in the next post. Stay tuned... :D

Cameron Highlands, My Trip: Part 1

Last 2 weeks was one of Malaysia's most celebrated public holiday, Deepavali. One of my ex-coursemate had been planning to go to Cameron Highlands for a vacation-cum-reunion for all ex-coursemates. Although only half of the coursemates managed to join this vacation, the fun and excitement was just like good old days...

It was a 3 days 2 nights trip, where we spent a night in Cameron Highlands and another in Ipoh. Before I starts my photo journey of this trip, mind to read some facts about Cameron Highlands...

Cameron Highlands is a highland region located about 121km east of Ipoh and about 214km north of Kuala Lumpur, in Pahang, Malaysia. At 5,000ft (1,500m) above sea level it is the highest area on the mainland, enjoys a cool climate, with temperatures no higher than 25°C and rarely falls below 12°C year-round. Cameron Highlands is actually a district in the state of Pahang Darul Makmur although the road entrance is via Tapah and Simpang Pulai in the state of Perak Darul Ridzuan. The size of the whole Cameron Highlands district is roughly two and a quarter times the size of Singapore. (Source: Wikipedia)

We make our first stop in Tanah Rata. We checked in to our apartment and went for our lunch here.

After lunch, we start our journey in Cameron Highlands. First, we stopped at Butterfly Farm. Well, this is only a mini butterfly farm. Some people waited for a while for some people to find parking, as this is a serious problem in Cameron Highlands.

Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan

Teluk Intan is one of the stop of my one-day food-hunting journey while on the way to Penang from Kuala Lumpur last weekend. You are not considered here before you visited the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan. It's just Malaysia's version of Pisa Tower... :)

I had a chance to climb up the tower. Well, the authority there only allowed us to climb up to second floor. While I'm inside the tower, my body was tend to move to a side automatically...it's proof that the tower is the leaning one...haha... :D
