Musings from another time and another forum

I was going through some old files and had to install a Word Perfect converter to read an old archive. Many years ago I used to write at Gibe.com, in fact it is where I first started to write pseudo commentary (long) before Aloha Dump. I came across this gem in which I was in rare form and let someone named Horizon have it with both barrels. He was anti military, as evidenced by his post, and really bashed me for about a month before I wrote this final response- to which he never replied. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Re: Crime & Punishment 05-01-97 03:48:39 horizon Hey Shitster, how can you be on the net, with more info at your fingertips than the world has ever known, and still be so unbelievably ignorant? How is it that you can only look back as far as Iraq? I mean, I won't even go into the part where Hussein was "Our Boy" for years, only demonized by US, when he refused to obey. How about ...

Terrorists, Hollywood, braindead Dems and Muslim extremists

This is why that group of people piss me off: The last seven times we Americans took up arms and sacrificed the blood of our youth, it was in the defense of Muslims (Bosnia , Kosovo, Gulf War l, Kuwait , etc.) Muslim Nations demanded apologies from the US after the disgrace at Abu Ghraib but no such call for an apology came upon the extremists came after 9/11. Muslim and Arab leaders didn't apologize for flight 93 and 175, the USS Cole, the embassy bombings, the murders and beheadings of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl, etc. Every time terrorists hide they find a convenient 'Holy Site.' Soldiers who follow them are rebuked by the Arab world, Muslims, and even Americans. Terrorists do not receive the same rebuke for flying a jet into the World Trade Center that collapsed and severely damaged Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church - one of our Holy Sites. All of the murderers on 9/11 were Islamic Arabs. I'm all for racial profiling and get extremely angry at the system when my w...

Iraq 5 year mark

The five year mark approaches for the start of the most important war of our time. Nary a word is spoken, however, by our Presidential hopefuls. The Democrats have resorted to their old tricks and all the Republicans have to do is sit back and enjoy the show and Clinton and Obama duke it out. I think that 5 years is a long time to be tied up in a place where feelings of our presence (by the locals) are so misplaced. Then again, a lot of people who don't want us there probably are reallyh locals anyway. I'm sure there are thousands of people form Iran, Syria, and other asshole countries, who are there solely to make our lives a living hell as we try to get some semblance of sanity in the region. On one hand, people there deserve a life without being blown to bits by a group (any group) of people Allah bent on spreading their defunct religion to all corners of the earth. Juxtaposed is the fact that we have been there a long time, it is getting harder to control the fanatical assh...

UN sanctions Iran; Russia flip flops

I think Obi wan just didn't realize the applicability of his statement about Mos Eisley spaceport when he said, "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy". I wonder if George Lucas was thinking of the U .N. when he wrote that little quip because that is exactly what I think of whenever I read something about the U.N. The U.N. is showing some signs of sacking up and telling Iran to cut the crap when it imposed a third set of sanctions on Iran's nuclear program. Everyone's gut feeling was that Iran was enriching the uranium from their power plants to weapons grade stuff. There were some sources that verified what we all knew was going on and the U.N. is "Mad as hell and we aren't going to take it anymore- by gum, we'll slap 15 more sanctions on Iran and they will be just as effective as the 13 we slapped on Iraq!" /wrist But at least it is something and there is enough concern growing that Iran would actually nuke Israel if ...

Iran is reeeally starting to piss me off

I have taken a serious hiatus from the political blogging, mainly because I have been extremely busy with the new move, new job, etc., but also because it is a pain in the ass to follow and comment on. My previous job allowed me the opportunity to research and write consistently because I was very a short timer and nobody expected me to participate in the Navy's daily bullshit. But I did visit some of my daily reads and find that there is still a lot of tension in Iran, Iraq, Afghani--- well, pretty much everywhere over there. And jack shit is being done about it. Still. Bush insists that a nuclear-armed Iran will lead to three-peat World War and, as much as he has bumbled things up through his last 2 terms, I am inclined to agree with my former boss on this issue. I wholeheartedly believe that Iran would (will?) use their nukes on Israel. Why wouldn't they? Ahmadinejad has made threats to do so in the past. He is not joking around when he tells the U.S. that he will retailiat...

British hostages

I came across an article in the New Zealand Herald that has an interesting piece about the 15 British military personnel taken hostage by Iran. Clearly, Iran is not the calculating chess player I thought they were; instead, they are a bumbling and desparate nation who is at the end of its rope. But I digress. The author of the piece, Gwynne Dyer, chose a spectacular and attention grabbing title- How to start a war- American style . Dyer contends that had Iran came across an American boarding party there would have been a shootout and the United States would now be at war. He bases this claim on a few out of context quotes by the XO of the USS Underwood, a frigate assigned to help out the British ship Cornwall, the ship the boarded RIB's came from. I'm sure the XO was frustrated and pissed that the Brits were taken and perhaps insinuated, "Why didn't they shoot those bastards instead of getting captured?" I had the same reaction also. I doubt the XO had all the in...
