On the other hand, Té suggested a fest of blorbos touching the Rockstar Lestat and now I want it.

2026 whine preview
Dec. 27th, 2025 12:58 pmsusandennisHazel has come into my apartment 3 times this week to ask me to fix her tablet. Three times I have said that I would all she has to do is bring it to me. No tablet yet. She downloads shit and then gets warnings from malware. I think if I ever see the tablet again, I'll find her solitaire games that she can play offline and then turn off her wifi access.
But, the big news is she said that John (her husband who can't turn on his computer) has ordered her a big cellphone. Probably a large size, off brand smart phone. "he got the big one so I can see the numbers". Hazel cannot work a traditional handset because she forgets how. There is no way in the world she will be able to operate a cellphone. She will be in here every time she tries to turn it on. John does not know how to operate a smart phone. He can barely manage his feature flip phone. This is going to get ugly fast. I think my game plan is to show her to to call our IT guys here at Timber Ridge.
Elbow Coffee was not as bad as it has been and not as good. But, it is over for another week.
I'm just tired of old people.
I did my Safeway run and it is really cold out. I have no reason to test it further. I might puzzle a bit and then settle in with some TV and knitting.

Today in Stories I Wish I Could Read

I have been watching my entire dashboard lose its collective mind over Heated Rivalry.
I tried to read this fic, which has in-universe fandom, one of my favorite tropes, and has a retrospective slant on what the development of hockey RPF in-universe would be like. Petra-nip.
I got as far as an in-universe primer for one of the characters, and was swamped with the combined nostalgia/trauma.
They're fictional! They can't possibly be sekrit racists or abetting rapists or not-so-sekritly shaking hands with Putin! They're not real!
And I can't do it.
I hope you are all having a wonderful time with your sinless imaginary hockey bros. I just keep thinking, "But if they were Real, they'd have Secrets that would make me Hate them."
I guess I will continue not engaging, because if I can't read an imaginary primer about an imaginary hockey player, I would be completely pants at watching the show. Primers are how I learned about real hockey players! It's a great starting place!

Dec. 27th, 2025 09:32 amsusandennisWe only had 4 people turn out for volleyball so we only played an hour and it was not very vigorous and then I swam laps for about 20 minutes. There is a problem with the pool - both the water and the air are a few degrees cooler than they should be. And it's the weekend. Assuming no one gets to it, it should be icicles by Monday. I told the front desk but the guy on duty is famous for not doing shit so...
The big headline news is that this morning there was no blood in Biggie's pee!!! It looked just like Julio's pee!!! Yep, I'm very excited to report the findings made in comparing my cats' urine. Turns out that one of the big pluses about tofu litter is the ability to see the color of pee easily. (Biggie and Julio use different litter box real estate. Biggie pees in the back of the box and Julio's partial to the front left side. This has been very helpful in tracking them.)
I finished up a very good book a few days ago (The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham) and have had a really hard time latching onto a new one but I think I might have found the one... Playing Dead by Elizabeth Greenwood. It's non fiction about people and reasons and methods for faking your own death. I'm just at the beginning but the prolong is really interesting.
I'm at the beginning of Season 6 (of 10) of Shetland.
I am seriously considering a quick to Safeway. I want fried chicken and cake.
But right now, I need to go to Elbow Coffee.

I have next week off as well (school holidays are the best). It is not chill, despite the hoped for chillness. So many things. I have not come up with my 26 things for 2026, so that doesn't bode well. Read 75 books this year (well, 73 1/2, but there's still time!). Haven't figured out what exactly to fill my time with now that school (school-school) is done, which means lots of sitting around brainlessly.
Favorite bb!hockey continues to wear a Yankees cap (a new one! wtf!), so he is no longer my favorite (lies). I'm looking for a new favorite though, because he's terrible (lies). We have a great team this year. They are the most dramatic of boys though. Come from behind wins, shoot-outs, overtime, everything. My blood pressure is not good during hockey.
Woke up at 4 AM with a very sore neck that is not responding to advil or tylenol, so that sucks. Kind of want to go back to bed, but fear it will only get worse.
Anyway, I am boring.

Tom Yum Kha Soup

PREP TIME: 15 MINUTES COOK TIME: 20 MINUTES TOTAL TIME: 35 MINUTES SERVINGS: 4
Ingredients
US
20 oz whole shrimps with heads and shells
3 stalks lemongrass minced (use 3 tablespoons lemongrass paste from a tube if stalks are hard to find)
4 Thai bird's eye chilies smashed (Serrano chiles can be substituted, or just use red pepper flakes for heat)
6 garlic cloves smashed
10 kaffir lime leaves torn (can use lime zest instead)
1 piece galangal sliced (you can use fresh ginger as a substitute however it will yield a different flavor)
1 cup low sodium chicken broth
5 cups water
For the Soup
1 medium onion cut into wedges ½ inch thick
8 oz oyster mushrooms sliced
2 tomatoes cut into wedges
2 tsp sugar
6 tbsp fish sauce
5 tbsp lime juice
½ cup fresh coriander/cilantro leaves for garnish
3 tbsp Thai roasted chili paste
⅔ cup coconut milk
METRIC

Hello, everyone! ^.^ Happy holidays, and welcome to the last Free for All of 2025. There are no themes to follow for prompts or fills. If, perhaps, you missed a prompt theme that you liked, or you've had any ideas that didn't really work with Tuesday's or Thursday's posts, then today's your chance to prompt 'em. Be free, and have fun! ✎
Just a few rules:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
3. Use the character's full name and the fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here. Unfortunately, DW doesn’t have a cut tag, so use your best judgment when it comes to spoilers.
5. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
6. If your story has possible triggers, please warn for them in the subject line!

(Or, you can be like me, and try to save interesting prompts as you see 'em... and then end up with multiple text doc files full of [themes + links + prompts] that you can easily look through and search for keywords.) Multiple fills for one prompt are welcome, by the way! Oh, and you are very likely to find some awesome fills to read as well, and wouldn't it be nice to leave a comment on those lovely little writing distractions? ~_^
