PurimGifts 2024
Hello all!
I'm so jazzed for Purimgifts this year, and I hope my nonsense gives you some inspiration!
Things I Love
Percy Jackson & Related Fandoms:
(I'm just going to copy/paste from last year)
I want to clarify that I've really only read PJO, Heroes of Olympus, Trials of Apollo, and the Magnus Chase books. I haven't gotten to the Kane Chronicles yet, nor any of the crossovers, so these prompts will be based on those books.
The Magnus Chase books are tough to pin down for this challenge, since Alex Fierro is genderfluid. As a genderqueer person myself, I think Alex counts as a woman when she's in girl mode, so if you want to write about her and Magnus I'd be down for that. I'm also very partial to Samirah and her sibling relationship with Magnus as well.
Anywho, back to the Greek Mythology series.
Annabeth Chase is a wife and a half. I'm obviously a die-hard Percabeth shipper, but I also find her relationship with Luke extremely interesting. I headcanon Percy as also having a crush on him, so it would be cool to see an exploration of an alternate universe where they're a throuple. I also headcanon Annabeth as bisexual and ship her with Thalia and Piper. I think it would be fun to see her and the other girls hang out, maybe in New Rome since she and Percy are in college now.
I love Sally Jackson with all my heart, and I desperately want to see her summer romance with Poseidon!
I also love Meg and Reyna.
Iron Widow
I am absolutely enthralled by Wu Zetian. I think that Xiran managed to paint a portrait of this remarkably powerful, yet still deeply hurt woman. It's honestly one of the messiest, most realistic abuse victims I've ever seen portrayed in media. I also love her relationship with both Gao Yizhi and Li Shimin, so if you don't want to do a heavy character study for her, I'd also just love to see the three of them, like, hanging out or something. Someone please give this kids a break!
Harry Potter
I know JKR is a TERF, but I still love these books, oops. Please make as many Harry Potter characters transgender as you desire. The event allows for male characters to be written as trans women and I am chomping at the bit for trans woman Draco Malfoy. (I'm partial to the name "Lyra" for her, but you can pick anything you want haha.)
My preferred era is post-Battle of Hogwarts with all the kids settling into adulthood, but if you want to write about them at Hogwarts, be my guest.
My favourite girlies are Hermione, Luna, and Ginny, who I'd love to see Jewish or transgender headcanons for. Tonks counts for the event since she's canonically a woman, but I actually headcanon her as nonbinary. If you'd like to explore that in fic, I think it could be fun!
Ships are Hermione/Ron and Ginny/Luna.
Baldur's Gate (Video Games)
Unfortunately, I'm very new to the series and I've only played 3. That being said, BG3 is full of cool women, so there's lots to choose from!
Karlach Cliffgate is my fucking wife and I love her. If you want to do a character study, I'd love to see something focusing on her loneliness in Avernus and maybe a bit of her relationship with Zariel? With the rest of the tadfools loving and valuing her for more than just her strength as a point of contrast, perhaps. Or maybe just some silliness with the fact that she's a human radiator. I mainly ship her with Wyll, but I also think she'd be cute with Shadowheart. I think she and Astarion are besties.
Someone on tumblr once described Shadowheart as "someone made an evil character, but can't really play her as evil" and I think that fits her to a T. She's just so cute! I ship her with Karlach, Aylin, and Lae'zel. She and Astarion talk shit in Elvish together. I like her becoming an apostate, and I also like the headcanon that she's a werewolf!
I don't feel like doing a full write-up on Lae'zel, but she's cool and I like watching her slowly fall in love with Faerun over the course of the game.
Aylin and Isobel are absolutely lovely together, but I couldn't rescue Isobel on my first run. I ended up actually really liking Aylin and Shadowheart's interaction and I'd love to see them in a relationship!
Orin is a hot evil lady. I want her to step on me.
My only woman Tav is a Dark Urge named Nulenis (reference, warning for non-sexual nudity), who is a Wood Elf Oath of the Ancients Paladin. She's my evil Durge who leans into being bad. If you want to take a jab at writing her, I ship her hard with Gortash. Don't worry overmuch about getting her right: if it's supremely messed up she'd probably do it.
Does Tara count as a woman? I love her anyway.
Also I'm not sure how being Jewish would work in Faerun, but I'd love to see any attempt to suss it out!
