Calyx & Teebee - Summer Minimix
Given that I first started out spinning Drum and Bass back in '99/2000, and will always have a soft spot for the genre, it's crazy how I haven't really kept up with the scene recently. I think the last few joints I heard about were "Marka" and Fracture's "Gert Busy". I digress...
Anyhow, I saw this posted on Khal's blog and had to take a listen.
Mixmag posted mix for this Friday's GetDarker Vs. Drum&BassArena party, which goes down at the Cable club in London. They both drop a great varied selection, including the tracks from their forthcoming RAM records release, plus a number of remixes and cuts from TeeBee's Subtitles imprint.
This mix is definitely going on the iPhone.

New music from Fused Forces and Be-1ne...

I've been getting more into the Autonomic/minimal side of D&B over the past couple of years; especially since a lot more producers have started experimenting with half step tempos.
These two tracks come courtesy of Midlands-based Be-1ne (who also runs Area Recordings), and Triangulum family members Fused Forces.
Be-1ne - Version 1 bounce (Autonomic) by Be-1ne
Fused Forces - Dark Beginnings by FusedForces
Be-1ne opts for some lush pads, whilst the Romford duo come with a darker vibe, complete with organ stabs and rolling percussion.
Well played, chaps!

David Guetta Feat. Estelle "One Love" Remixes
We all know David Guetta for his recent chart-topper featuring Akon (which admittedly, was pretty catchy), and also that cheesy piano-driven bullshit with Kelly Rowland..So I was a bit skeptical when I stumbled upon these remixes. Can Shy FX and Breakage really do this tune (which also happens to be shit) any justice?
The Shy FX isn't too bad. It's got that mainstream D&B vibe for the main part, but then drops into a Dubstep-ish section for the latter part of the song. It's not really my style of D&B, but for the more commercial clubs, and also as a transition tool from Dubstep to D&B (and vice versa) for DJs, it'll do okay...
The Breakage remix, however, is fairly solid. Again, this is another girl-friendly remix which will do well in mainstream venues, but is still worth checking out as it's got a nice laid back vibe.
Get: "One Love" (Shy FX Remix)
Get: "One Love" (Breakage Remix)
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before David Guetta teams up with someone like Sean Paul for yet another urban electro smash hit *rolls eyes*

Rock The Dub LTD's 1st Release: RTDLTD001
So it's finally here, the eagerly-awaited first release from Rock The Dub's digital imprint, RTDLTD. The first release comes from US artist Noah D, who brings us a great slice of ragga-influenced D&B. Highly recommended.

AA) Noah D "Mash Down"
You may remember I featured "Mash Down" in the first edition of my monthly mixes for this year, and it's also where I got the name from!
Hold tight for more quality D&B (and other genres) from RTDLTD very soon! In the meantime, if you're a producer/artist, send your beats over to Khal.

Alesha Dixon ''Lets Get Excited'' (Blame Remix)

Yeah, you'd get it Alesha, but this one goes out to Blame, not you.
If you haven't heard of Blame you should probably get out more (or just keep reading this blog religiously). Blame's been around the Drum & Bass scene for years, but recently he's been receiving a lot of well deserved recognition. 2008 saw the release of Stay Forever, a massive tune that soon began receiving some serious air play on Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as blowing up dancefloors across the country.
This year Blame's showing no signs of slowing down, having already released one of the biggest liquid D&B anthems of the year, Because Of You.
Perhaps more exciting than his original productions, however, are his remixes. His remix of Show Me Love has been at number 1 in the Top 100 Drum & Bass tracks on www.trackitdown.net for a long time and has received a lot of support from fellow DJs, and quite rightly so - its huge. His latest remix of Alesha Dixon's Lets Get Excited is basically more of the same; a big commercial track reworked to appeal to a different dancefloor.
However, one notable thing about Blame is his accessible sound; don't be surprised to find his tunes getting played out mainstream nightclubs as well as D&B raves. Alongside Brookes Brothers, Blame is definitely a Drum & Bass producer to watch in 2009.
Check out his productions/remixes on his myspace

Mistabishi "Printer Jam"
Some new D&B goodness for you all...
I first got to know about Mistabishi though High Contrast's "Watch The Ride" mixtape. "She Lied" was a personal favourite for 2008.
Taken from his debut album, "Drop", which will released on Feb 23rd through Hospital Records, "Printer Jam" is a track that, as the name suggest, makes use of various printer sounds as its main structure. The result? He's made one of the sickest, and most creative D&B joints I've heard in a long while...
Get: Mistabishi "Printer Jam"
This is my new favourite joint of 2009.

So, to kick start this year's set of mixes I've gone in with a dope D&B mix for you to check out. There's a nice mixture of jump up, tech-step, disco, vocal & liquid D&B here for your ears.
I've taken the name for this series - "The Mash Down" - from the rather excellent track by Noah D, which will be released digitally next month on RTDLTD. I think it kinda sums up the whole theme pretty well.

Lastly...I'd like to thank all of those who downloaded my mixes over the year, to the bloggers who posted them up (Bluntwun, Khal, Krakmuzik), and to everyone who's joined the Facebook Group, and shown support. It's definitely been a fun thing to do (although sometimes a little stressful!), but next year I'll be focusing a lot more on production and full-length mixtapes....
So....52 weeks, 52 mixes, no tracks repeated (remixes excluded) & 100,000+ downloads. Who else can step up to the challenge?
Until next time, Happy New Year and all the very best for 2009.
See you on the other side.

DJ Cable's Weekly Mix #14 (Download)

Yep yep, here's the 14th(!) installment of my Weekly Mini Mixes for you all....If you've missed out on any previous mixes - They can all be found here.
Anyhow - A few of you may know that I originally started off spinning Drum & Bass when I first got turntables....so for this week, I decided to go back to my roots and throw some D&B joints together.
As usual, stream/download via Zshare
Tracklisting:
01. Die & Clipz - Number One
02. Keaton & Hive - Bring It On
03. Jaydan - After Dark
04. Lynx - Distance Zero
05. Chase & Status - Hurt You
06. Clipz - Ugly
07. Utah Saints - Something Good '08 (High Contrast Remix)
BONUS! I have yet another refix for you all....If you listen to BBC 1Xtra then you may have heard Mistajam's rather excellent 'Night Time Soulja', where he's taken the existing Soulja Boy track, and put a Benga & Coki loop behind it.
I decided to expand on that, add a DJ friendly intro, chopped up some vocals and cut from the original track to the 'Night' instrumental....I've been sitting on this for a few months now, but thought I'd might as well share it with you....I must also stress as well that Mistajam came up with the idea first (Cable & biting doesn't mix!) - So, here's my take on Mistajam's already dope blend record:
Mistajam - 'Night Time Soulja' (DJ Cable Refix)
Got feedback? Holla!
