Day 3... Or is it Day 5?

Image I really can't decide whether today is Day 3 or Day 5 of the study break, but the truth is there's only 4 days left to my first exam. Or is it 5 days left, if you include today? But I know I won't get any studying done today, so I guess that leaves me with just 4 days. Man, numbers!

Anyway, I've decided that maybe it's time for me to get down to a little studying. Not too much though, just a little. So that means this will be my last blog entry for a long time to come, at least until the entire final exams are over... Now don't get too happy, especially you triShie! Who knows, I might be able to sneak in a little typing every once in a while. My exams will officially end on the 30th of April, and I guess I won't be able to blog then either, because I've got plans lined up for that entire day! What plans you ask? Partying plans! Woo-hoo! After exams, it'll be some celebratory makan time with my coursemates (we'll actually have made it through 2 whole years - that's half of the entire course!) and the night will be a slumber party cum cook-and-eat-all-you-can session with my good friend(s)! It's gonna be a rockin' great time! Muahahahaha!

Don't mind me. I'm just trying to cheer myself up with prospects of some fun after the torture. Y'know trying to visualise the silver lining round the ugly clouds.

Image Sigh.

Well, I guess that's it. At least for now.

ImageCheers... I think.

Soundtrack from "300"

ImageWell, guess what? I've discovered yet another great soundtrack! The music of 300 really sends shivers down my spine... And get this: I haven't even watched the movie yet! Man, with a soundtrack this good... I don't even wanna imagine what the movie would look like! Somehow though, the entire franchise reminds me of Gladiator, y'know? Maybe it's the ancient body armour. Or the haunting, war-inspiring music. I dunno. But it sure is a good soundtrack. I really wanna watch the movie. I've heard so much about it! Mainly from the guys though. Somehow, I have a feeling the girls don't have any idea there's a movie by the name of 300 out. Maybe because it's all military and bloody and vicious and all that stuff that guys naturally like. But not me... Oh no, not me! I've heard so much about the Battle of Thermopylae. I think the first time I heard about it was a few years back, and the idea that a measly band of obviously-outnumbered soldiers died holding back that army... Man, it just gave me goosebumps. I mean, can you even imagine what went through their minds? Trapped there, knowing full well they were going to die, that there would never see their families again... Looking around and seeing their brothers, their childhood friends with that same knowledge in their eyes. Impressive. I've probably said this so many times to so many of you that you're probably just plain bored of this. Muahahahaha! I really wanna see it! I wonder if it's still showing in the cinemas? Or maybe I'll just have to make do with the DVD... And you know what's the added bonus? I ran a check on the movie, and found out that David Wenham is in it! *faints* That's Faramir for those of you who don't already know (how can you not know?) and I was like, "Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!". Faramir just so happens to be my fave character from LOTR.

So, anyone game to watch it with me?

Cheers!

Day 2

Today is Tuesday, Day 2 of the study break. Or is it Day 4? It depends really, whether you consider Saturday as Day 1 or Monday as Day 1. Anyway, what have I been doing so far?
  • playing computer games, namely Warcraft III
  • playing online games, namely Neopets and GirlSense
  • downloading lotsa songs
  • watching TV
  • eating
  • more eating
  • actually doing anything and everything, except studying

Now how cool is that? Man, I love study breaks!

Cheers!

Study breaks mean...

Why I don't like STUDY BREAKS

  • study breaks = studying
  • study breaks = studying lots
  • study breaks = having to read lots and lots of really boring books
  • study breaks = having that stressed, worried feeling at the back of your mind
  • study breaks = the end of the semester = final exams (booooooooooo!)

Why I love STUDY BREAKS

  • study breaks = a break from the hecticness of university life
  • study breaks = the end of horrible assignments (for that sem, at least)
  • study breaks = not having to drive an hour and a half each day just to get to class
  • study breaks = not having to stay up in college and miss the comforts of home
  • study breaks = waking up late every morning
  • study breaks = sleeping late every night
  • study breaks = watching all the really cool TV shows at night
  • study breaks = not having to worry where the next meal is gonna come from
  • study breaks = the end of the entire semester = a lovely 2-month holiday (OH YEAH!)

Cheers!

Gasp! My double life?

In a way, I guess you can say I'm living something of a double life... It's like, sometimes I stay up in uni, and sometimes I'm back home in my sweet own bedroom. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's bad. On the contrary, there are some pretty great points about staying up in college. For one, it's definitely more convenient. I don't have to spend close to an hour and a half each day just driving to and fro. And my bedroom is less than 5 minutes away from my lectures. How cool is that? So these days, whenever we have like 2 hours in between classes I just drive back to my room and hit the snooze button. But my days as a college 'inmate' are over, for this semester, at least. Study break is finally here, so I'll be spending the rest of the time at home. Not that I spent that much time in college anyway. The whole of this semester, I only stayed overnight in college for an accumulative total of 5 nights. Muahahahaha! 5 nights worth close to 500 bucks. It's more expensive than staying in a 5-star hotel! Next semester I intend to stay up more. Y'know... Get my money's worth, haha! It's quite fun, really, what with the friends and all. The night life is definitely more interesting. We get to drive out to supper even as late as 11 pm. Funny life I live. Below are some pics. I did say in a previous entry that I would post some up, so here they are:

Image

This picture above is what is known as the Student ID card, but here in UNIMAS, we have this really unique name for it: Kad Matrik. Basically, you can't get very far without your matric card. All students are given theirs within the first semester that they're here, that's how important it is. Then of course, you also need it when you're sitting for exams. And when you're dealing with any officials in the different departments and faculties. I mainly use mine to borrow books from the library. The rest of the time, I just don't wear it, muahahahaha!

Image

This picture above is the first thing you'll see when you open the door to my apartment. It's actually the college's idea of a living room, y'know, the place where everyone can congregate to chit chat and all the other stuff we're supposed to do to have a so-called 'social life'. I have 3 other housemates. We spend a lot of time laughing here. And getting bitten by mosquitoes too. My college is legendary for its mosquitoes. Seriously. On the right of the 'living room' is the sliding doors leading to a little balcony area where you can hang your clothes and spy on other people below. On the left is the door to my room.

Image

Now this is the door to my room. It's a double room, i.e. meant for two people to stay in, but I don't have a roommate, i.e. I have the room all to myself! And because it's meant to be a double occupancy room, I get more space than a single occupancy room would normally have.

Image

This messy table here with the books and the laptop and the handphone and the cables is my idea of a workstation. It's basically the only place you can put a laptop on in the entire room. And the only place that will fit a chair too. So yeah, logically, it's the place where I'm supposed to do my 'work' and 'study'. To be entirely truthful with you, it's where I watched Episodes 15 and 16 of my current favourite series, Heroes. You see the clothes strewn over the back of the chair? Yeah, that's how bad the storage space is in my room. Not much place to store anything, really. So I end up hanging stuff all over the place. I like to leave the windows open when I'm in the room, but it gets kinda difficult as evening approaches because of the legendary mosquito problem. My windows are coincidently the only windows in the apartment to not have any mosquito netting, so I get bitten quite badly.

Image

This is the view that I get from my mosquito netting-less windows. At least, this is the view that you would get if you were to lean halfway out of the window, clinging tightly on to the table so as not to topple over down three floors. The bluish aquamarine thingamajigs are the 'roofings' of other rooms. Sometimes you see some people poking their heads out, too. The trees are really pretty too. And when it rains, it's really one of the loveliest sounds you'll ever hear. Sometimes you can hear friends walking past your window downstairs and you can just lean over and yell at them. It's quite pretty really, the view. That is, if you lean halfway out. And I'd keep a tight grip on the table too, if I were you.

Image

Ah... Now this is really pretty. It's the view that you get from the balcony (remember, directly right of the 'living room'?) and this one was taken in the morning, before the sun came out really hot and bright, I think. It's really something, isn't it? Well, at least it is, to me. That's one of the reasons I finally moved into my apartment. The view is really something.

Image

Still taken from the balcony, just at a different angle. This is real near the entrance of TAZ College, and this is the UNIMAS bus that makes its rounds like every half hour on the same route, day in day out, every day of every week of every month. Sounds kinda routine, eh? Students who don't have their own transportation (motorbikes, bicycles, cars, jeeps) have to run after the buses each morning to catch a ride to their classes... Just kidding. Don't have to run lah. Enough buses one...

Image

Still from the balcony, different angle. The tennis court cum netball court cum badminton court cum futsal court cum whatever the students want to make of it. I've yet to step foot on it. What can I say? I'm just plain lazy.

Image

No more at the balcony, lemme bring you on a tour of the rest of the apartment. This is one of the bathroom cum toilets in my apartment. There's another one, but for some strange reason none of us use that one. Well, okay we do, but only very rarely, like when this one is being occupied. See how small the bathroom is? I wonder if they're violating any human rights here... Isn't there, like, a law against limited space or something? You know, like chickens have the right to a certain area in their chicken coops, so don't we have something like that for our toilet/bathrooms too? Or maybe they just want us to develop claustrophobia or something.

Image

This is the kitchen area. It's also the washing area I think. We do some cooking here, sometimes. Occasionally. Rarely. But yeah, we still do some cooking. Sometimes.

Image

Like this delicious pot of soup here. Housemates' special concoction, tastes real good too! This was one of the dishes when a few of us decided to stay in and cook up a feast for dinner. I learnt how to do college-style cooking, that is, how to use a rice cooker to cook everything and anything under the sun. Like fried sausages...

Image

... and macaroni and cheese! Oh the tastiness of it all! This was 2 packets of San Remo's macaroni and cheese, and my friends also bought an extra bottle of Kraft's cheddar cheese, and yes, we literally polished off the entire contents of the bottle. Well, there was still a little cheese left. But man, it was good! Better than what some of the fancy eateries in town are offering as their version of pasta. Guai zhai, Bibi zhai, Zhai zhai (you girls know who you are): Let's do it again sometime! Muahahahaha! Life is good up there in college!

Oh yes, life is good alright... I'm looking forward to my next semester in college!

Cheers!
