As our faithful blog readers know, we put up a "fake" Christmas tree every year. Each time we try to let the girls help out more and more with the assembly (frustrating though it may be). This happens to be the first time that our two kittens and our puppy have ever seen a Christmas tree, so that made it even more exciting (and frustrating).
As we assembled it, we could tell the cats and dog were probably wondering "what the heck are the humans doing now?"The kids did a pretty good job of laying out the branches (despite interference from the pets)….
…and they also tried to help Mama hook the branches to the trunk….
….a job that got easier as the branches got lower. They even demonstrated some good teamwork, with Emily handing the branches to Kate under the tree (teamwork makes the dream work, says Mom).
After the tree was finished and Mom had hung the lights on it, we paused a moment to try and get a photo with Molly. As usual, we could only capture a "chokehold" pose.
Next we moved on to the ornaments, which seem to multiply every year.
The kids weren't troubled at all by the hangers this year (every year they can do more and more)….…and they especially loved finding and hanging up their own ornaments from years past.
And how did the pets react to the ornaments? Just like you might have guessed, the cats assumed that we were constructing a fantastic new thing for them to play with….
…while Molly held out hope that all of the hanging things might be edible (she checked each one).
It was a lot of work, but in the end we think our tree turned out beautiful!
However, it may not last for long….this is the look of a cat who can't wait for midnight, so she can tear all those shiny ornaments down.
