Unfortunately I haven't yet managed to avoid duplicates upon adding a new friend. Likely it's a race condition between retrieving via AJAX and a server-side "backup" single job. Anyway, you might end up with duplicates, so here is a little tool to remove those:
For now just accessible via "Duplicates" on the left side menu while you are on the "Edit Friend" page on the backend:
