2nd best month of the year

Ah, October, the time of year a not-so-young gal's fancy turns to...pumpkins!

'Tis the month to indulge in all manner of things pumpkin.

Pumpkin donuts (the best can be found here and believe you me they are NOT vegan but I don't care)

Pumpkin lattes

Pumpkin bread, pumpkin scones, pumpkin pie, the list goes on.  No wonder that orange is one of my favorite colors and fall is my favorite season.  I plan on indulging every pumpkin whim I have this month.  It's kind of a "get it while you can" mentality.

The orange bike will see some action this month, as well.

I need to get an updated pic of the bike with its honey Brooks saddle and shellaced bar tape.  Gorgeous!

Happy October, one and all!

It's the most wonderful time of the year

After a miserable August, Saturday's high peaked at something like 72 degrees. Heaven! Yes, fall is in the air. The mornings are cool with a bit of a chilly bite. I love fall, but it's a shame that it goes by so quickly.

Anyway, Sunday's sandwich was an easy affair, as it was late in getting prepped. Path of least sandwich resistance, shall we say.

I made black bean burgers from The Happy Herbivore Cookbook. Recipe here.

These aren't bad, and they're easy. But, they do tend to fall apart a bit, so be careful if you decide to make them. Otherwise, they have good flavor. Served up with some potato salad and corn on the cob. Very summery holiday weekend-y.

And, in the spirit of fall, we indulged in this today:

Apparently the Punkin Ale is coveted! I grabbed the last 4-pack at the liquor store yesterday, and they said it's likely they won't be getting more in stock. Oh well, I got mine!

Happy Labor Day, all.

Cocktail of the month - October

Image

I picked up a 4-pack of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale tonight. I wanted something seasonal (and pumpkin, after my brownie mishap earlier this week), and this one fit the bill. Pricey, but I hoped that the higher price would give me a better chance of getting something good. My lower middle-class upbringing has instilled in me the belief that if something it more expensive, it must be better. In this case, it's true.

I'm not enough of a beer drinker to be able to discern the differences between beers, other than "I like this one," or "I don't like that." I did find this one to be very tasty. No strong overtones of pumpkin or spice. So subtle, but I enjoyed it a lot. Gave me a nice buzz after just one--not that this is a difficult feat.

Excellent. I recommend it.

By the way, did you see that moon tonight? Wow...
