South Dakota - Part 2 Bear Country

On Saturday we planned to drive through the Black Hills... Needles area and then on up to Mt. Rushmore. This is about an hours drive maybe more if you get behind a slow poke. So we decided to stop at Bear Country USA along the way to entertain the children. It was recommend to me by a friend and was really neat. So if your ever in the area I recommend you go as well!

I am missing quite a few pictures from my other camera, the cord to download the pictures has disappeared into moving box hell... this camera was manned by Colby... you will see the evidence below, but anyway Bear Country is basically a drive through zoo. It's really cool because you get close to the animals. Then at the end of the driving trail you can get out and do a walking portion. Again totally worth seeing!

This was so funny, they were just sitting in these holes they had dug. At our house we call them "Jed holes" after our late St. Bernard Jed, who would, with one swipe of his paw put a hole deep enough for one of the kids to sit in, in the yard. It's a loving term :)

South Dakota - Part One

After a short 6 hour ride (ha, ha) to Rapid City, South Dakota we arrived at a local park to celebrate Jeremy's Grandmothers 90th birthday. There is a cute little theme park called "Story Book Island". Jeremy had great childhood memories playing with his cousins there and was excited for our girls to play with their second cousins and have memories of it themselves! It was an adorable little place and we didn't get to spend near enough time playing, it closes pretty early.

This was the bridge into Storybook Island, complete with the mean trolls underneath.

This was really cute, "Old MacDonald's Farm" complete with a billy goat and her two kids. Which kept trying to jump up on the kennel with her and she kept butting them back to the ground. I know the feeling! She just needed some space!

Ice Cream Social with the Zoo Animals

Another favorite summer activity of mine is the Ice Cream Social at the Denver Zoo! It's in the evening so the air is nice and cool and the animals are all out and the crowds are minimal because it's for member's only! And to make it even better it's make your own ice cream sundaes complete with ALL the best toppings!
