weekend
I know it looks like summer above but it was just yesterday. I can see the jam purists shuddering.
Last summer we moved house which put the kibosh on jam making. Even though I managed to get a small batch in before moving, I still had an abundance of fruit left. It was hard to stop, but I had to. I cut up the remaining fruit and moved it from one house to another where it's been waiting for me in the freezer, ever since. I'd meant to get back to it sooner but you know how good intentions go.
Finally it felt like the right day. Yesterday I defrosted the cut-up apricots, gathered my equipment, squeezed the lemons, and began. Now I'm flush in jam again with 24 small jars to be exact. I didn't have high expectation for this batch but it really surprised me...it turned out really really well. I can't help making happy sounds when I eat it.

sounds like a day v. well spent! i have been buying marked down bonne maman from my local grocery but the quality is just not there anymore, thinking i might have to do my own too. we made our own jam in the early days of marriage when we weren't always so otherwise busy!
oh yum - enjoy! glad to know frozen fruit works just as well.
MP - I am a jam snob and demand good jam! I feel commercial jams and even a lot of farmer's market jams are just too sweet. The amount of sugar they use masks the flavor of the fruit. Also, I know where my ingredients come from. Thus, the reason I make my own - and it's a lot of fun to see the jars all lined up. Go for it :^)
Bravo! Who needs the purists? You have happy sounds to make. Enjoy, Janis.
It looks delicious!
haha!
i wish i was your neighbor... :)

mmmmm looks good. Have you made any special labels for this batch yet????
Denise - That makes me smile, thanks!
Catarina - oh, it is!
Jane - I wish!
Karen - Labels are on the way. Maybe I'll start on them tonight :^)
I feel like a child when I look at your photos... I can smell the delicate perfume of these delicious "gourmandises"!
Ohh Otli... I love that. xo
how nice to see some of you! i have some frozen strawberries that were intended for ice cream, but winter came before I could make it (and you know, when in Italy, gelato eaten in wintertime will cause pneumonia for sure), and I was thinking of defrosting them, and making jam. I see on your grocery list "anise extract", what do you use it for? just curious ... :)
Hey Francesca - Strawberry jam has become one of my favorites. Funny to hear you have some fruit waiting too :^)
The anise extract is for biscotti. I would love to know how you make your biscotti if you ever want to share a recipe!
p.s. kind of scary to show myself! ;^)
So inviting to see the steam coming from the pot and to smell the jam cooking and see it freshly made!!
I was glad to see a bit of you too!!
Thanks for bringing us in to that delicious weekend moment!! Lucky and loved fruit to have travelled with you to your new home, Enjoy!!
I forgot to leave a ♡!Happy Valentines Day!!
I agree with Jane, I wish I was your neighbor! YOur jam looks delicious!
Yum! Your jam looks delicious! I have never made jam but would love to learn.
ohh that looks so good & like a fun day. Would love it if you did a sort of tutorial with photos!! ps. cute jars!
excellent! I feel there's nothing wrong with making it from frozen fruit if you have to... so much better than wasting the fruit! My mum bags and freezes fruit from my parent's garden for me:)
Hello lovely Janis...
eventually I have a moment to travel to your San Francisco ... how lovely to spy you at the stove and making a delicious batch... LOVE apricot and yes... less sugar is my preference.
SO good to think you are settled and able to slowly return to all your old beloved past times!
S xo
