My Girl

Bailey spent the afternoon of Memorial Day outside in the water!  She had a great time running through her Nemo sprinkler and splashing in her frog sandbox turned swimming pool.  She is ready for summer!

She was asleep by 6:20 PM! I tried to wake her up for dinner, but she wouldn't budge. She slept until 7:50 the next morning!

First Bath

Campbell enjoyed his first bath in his little bath tub. He didn't know what to think of it at first, but I think he warmed up to the idea. Rub-a-dub-dub!

Two Weeks With Our Boy

Here are a few highlights of our first two weeks with Campbell.
  • Maw-Maw (Jenn's mom) stayed with us until Wednesday of this week. She was a big help with Campbell, Bailey, and housework.
  • Campbell was jaundice upon leaving the hospital. We had to take him to the doctor to have his bilirubin level checked on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday. We're finally in the clear!
  • He lost a bit of weight in the beginning. His discharge weight was 8 lb 14 oz on Wednesday. On Thursday he was down to 8 lb 12 oz which was 8% of his birth weight. We were told to feed him every 2 hours and by Friday he was back up to 9 lb 3 oz! On Tuesday he was 9 lb 5 oz. Almost back up to his birth weight.
  • Bailey loooves her baby brother. She pats his head, kisses him, and brings him blankets and pacifiers. She also says, "You feeding my baby brother?" or "You holding my baby brother?" So cute!
  • Nonnie and Bubba (Judd's parents) have been here this weekend. Nonnie slept on the floor in Campbell's room and took care of the night feedings for us.
  • Campbell went to church for the first time this morning. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures :(
And the most important thing...pictures! I finally managed to get some of Campbell with his eyes open.

Campbell's Grand Entrance

Now that we've been home for almost 2 weeks, I'm finally finding time to record the story of Campbell's birthday.

I had my 39 week appointment on Friday the 9th. My doctor told me the week before that we would talk about how much longer she'd make me go at this appointment. She reported that I was 2 cm dilated then asked when I wanted to schedule an induction the next week. My response was the sooner the better so we decided on Monday, May 12. Bailey's birthday is 8-12-05 and Campbell's would be 5-12-08 ... I wonder if I'll forever be confused.

It was strange going through the weekend knowing I would have a baby on Monday. It did allow for our families to be here and arrangements for Bailey could be made. Both of our parents arrived on Sunday afternoon and we all enjoyed dinner together. I didn't sleep much that night because I was so excited to meet my baby boy the next day!

We got up very early Monday morning and arrived at the hospital at 5:15. I put on the lovely hospital gown, answered a handful of questions, and finished some paperwork for the hospital. My nurse wasted no time starting my IV. The pitocin was flowing by 6:30 AM. My doctor arrived at 7:45 to break my water, but I was still only 2cm and the baby was not far enough down so she decided to wait. Since I had not progressed at all, my nurse convinced me to try the birth ball. After about an hour I was back in bed and had made it to 3 cm. Still not much progress. After another hour, the nurse had me sit in a rocking chair. At noon my doctor returned and broke my water. At the same time, the anesthesiologist showed up to give me my epidural. I was not in tremendous pain, but they assured me things would pick up after breaking the water. This is when Judd disappeared. He doesn't do needles so my mom saw me through the procedure. At 12:30, I was STILL only 3 cm. I must admit that I expected to have a baby by early afternoon. After all, that's how it happened for several of my friends who had been induced. I was beginning to realize that would not be happening for me.

The rest of the afternoon was a bit of a blur. I was very tired and suffered from painful back labor due to the way the baby was facing. As I tried to get some rest, my nurse had me turn from my right side to my left side every 30 minutes or so to try to get the baby to turn. At 2:30 I was 4 cm. At 3:30, I was 4 to 5 centimeters. All the turning must have helped because the baby turned and the back labor subsided. At 4:45 I was 8 cm. Finally some progress!

At 6:30 I was fully dilated and began pushing. Campbell Clark entered the world at 6:51 PM weighing 9 pounds 9 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long. I immediately noticed all of his dark hair and how big he was. I was overwhelmed with love for my baby boy and couldn't wait to hold him in my arms.

We were able to keep Campbell with us for an hour before the nurses took him to the nursery. I got to feed him for the first time then he got to meet his big sister and both sets of grandparents. It was surreal. I couldn't believe I was now a mother of two beautiful children. I'm so thankful for my family of four!

It won't be long...

I went to the doctor this morning. I am now dilated 2 centimeters. If I don't go into labor on my own this weekend, I am scheduled to be induced at 5:30 on Monday morning. We'll be meeting baby Campbell very soon!!

update

-I've gone from uncomfortable to miserable. It hurts to sit, stand, or lie down. I no longer walk. I waddle. Very slowly. At my doctor's appointment last week, doc reported that I was 1 centimeter dilated and 50% effaced. She also said that we would discuss how much longer she'd make me go after my next appointment, which is Friday.

-It seems I've become a spectacle in public. I've decided to stay home until the baby is born. I can't go to the grocery store, library, or park (all from experience in the last few days) without people stopping me. "Girl, you're about to pop." "When are you due?" "What are you having?" "That baby has dropped." I'm not kidding - all from complete strangers.

-I STILL don't have an oven. When they came to fix it last week, they discovered what they thought was the problem and had to order parts. They came back today and after attempting to fix it, realized that it was beyond repair. Great. No oven. Need a new one. We're waiting to hear from the home warranty people about what we need to do to get a new one.

-Bailey is beginning to appreciate my love for The Sound of Music. She likes to listen to my ipod so I started putting "My Favorite Things" on for her to hear. She loves it! She has learned the words and sings along! She has started asking to listen to it and see it on the movie. You don't know how much this makes my heart swell! (I'm a dork, I know.)

Build-a-Bear

My good friends Meredith, Katie, and Naomi gave Bailey a gift card to Build-a-Bear as a big sister gift at our San Antonio shower. We finally took her last night to build her bear. When we first started talking about it she said she wanted a pink bear, but Daddy gently persuaded her to get a brown bear instead. For two days she talked about making a brown bear and putting clothes on it. It was a fun experience. Bailey got to pick out her brown bear (there were several to choose from), stuff it, put a heart in it, dress it, and name it. Bailey chose "Brown Bear" as its name. Imagine that. When the time came, she really didn't care about the clothes. Judd and I were ready to pick out the clothes and dress it ourselves until we saw the Disney section! As soon as Bailey laid eyes on the Cinderella dress she had to have it for her bear. They even had "glass" slippers to match! She held her bear all the way home and slept with it last night. Thank you Mer, Katie, and Naomi for such a wonderful gift for our little girl!

Bailey loved the box! She called it Brown Bear's house and kept peeking in the holes to see it.

AS SOON as we got home, Bailey put on her own Cinderella dress and shoes - just like Brown Bear!

My Favorite Things

Since every other blogger seems to be doing this, I thought I'd join in. This is the Jenn edition. Stay tuned for Judd and Bailey's favorite things.

Vitamin Water - This stuff is yummy and a great alternative to my beloved Coca Cola Classic. I don't care what the commercials say about the calories, it tastes good and really has a ton of vitamins!
Image

Tyler Candle Company Candles - My good friend Katie introduced me to these candles. My favorites are High Maintenance and Diva.
Image

De Wafelbakkers Sweet Potato Pancakes - I saw these on someone else's blog and decided to give them a try. Yum-O!! They are made with all natural whole grains and are high in fiber and protein.
Image

Reef Flip Flops - These amazing shoes mold to your feet. I wear mine year round!
Image

Olive Garden - This restaurant has always been special to Judd and me. Judd actually ate there every Thursday night during college with a good friend. The girls were only invited on special occasions! Judd took me to The Olive Garden in Waco the night he proposed! Their soup, salad, and breadsticks are to die for!
Image

Coke - I'm an addict. Enough said. In my defense I don't buy it for my house, but if we're out Coke is my beverage of choice. I prefer it from the fountain rather than a can or bottle.
Image

Starbucks - There's just something comforting about an overpriced cup of joe. My current favorite is the honey latte, but white chocolate mocha is fabulous too. I also love the seasonal drinks for summer like the orange mocha! I don't frequent Starbucks as much as I'd like because #1 - the closest one is 20 miles away and #2 - I'm on a budget! I can't wait until the fall when I work within close proximity to one!
