I Loved Last Weeks Let's Scrap Sketch

I loved the sketch that Cheri gave us last week over at Let's Scrap. I loved it so much that I just had to make two layouts with it.
Here is her amazing sketch
Image

Isn't it fabulous. I especially love that it can be used for extra pictures by making a flip out page, which is what I did with my first layout.
The pictures were taken on the weekend.  My son Jason and his wife Amy were in her brothers wedding on Saturday.  Grandpa and I got to babysit our 5 month old Grandson Colton for the first time, while they were at the wedding. Before they headed out I got a chance to take some pictures of Amy and Jason together and then some of the 3 of them. Amy's Aunt was the wedding photographer and she was kind enough to send me the photos she took of them after the wedding, so that's why the pictures have different backgrounds.  Here's the layout I made.

Here is the second page with the extra flap open.

Of course while I was babysitting wee Colton I had to get some pictures of him.  I saw his little pajama's that worked perfectly for some Bo Bunny papers and embellishments I had.  He had actually outgrown the PJ's but I couldn't resist still taking the pictures of him in them.  He is such a ham for the camera, and  you can get him smiling and laughing without trying to hard. His smile just lights up the room.  Here is the layout I made.

I decided to not do the banner for this one, it looked better when I just put the embellishments all around the page. If you are wanting to have a better look at the pages, you can make them larger by clicking on them.

I hope that you are all having a great week.  Don't forget to check into Let's Scrap tomorrow to see what the new sketch looks like.  Happy Scrapping!

Adorable

I've had fun this week doing a couple of layouts with Cheri's Sketch from Let's Scrap. Here is the sketch Image
This first layout is for my Grandson Jacob's album. Most of the paper and embellishments were made by Crate Paper - Little Sprout Collection plus I added a few other embellishments in my stash. The clouds were made using my cuttlebug, spiral folder and stickles. I'm very please with the way it turned out.
Here is the layout

The next layout was completed using the same sketch. The difference is that I also incorporated the Let's Scrap Design Team Challenge which was to do a layout with torn cardstock as the background. The pictures are of me (aren't I cute lol) between the ages of 3-8 taken while I was camping with my family at Silver Lake Park here in Ontario. I did some extra journaling which is on the tag hidden behind the last picture. I have many fond memories of my time spent camping there and did the page to put in my Book of Me album. I had never torn cardstock for a layout before so it was a new experience for me. I decided to do the whole background with this technique making the grass, beach, water and sky with the torn paper, most of which was the core-dination paper line. I also had fun using up a bunch of my stash of stickers and camping embellishments.

Here is the layout I made.

I hope you enjoyed both layouts and Happy Scrapping.

Bath Time

I just completed another layout for a challenge at Let's Scrap. Here are the rules for this challenge
1. Use a Let's Scrap sketch
2. NO PATTERNED PAPER may be used
3. Use at least one quote with author's name
4. Use a die cut of some kind
5. You must include at least one homemade embellishment

At first I was stumped because I always use patterned paper and the thought of just using card stock had me rather worried but I finally got an idea. I decided to use pictures taken a few months ago of my Grandson Jacob having his bath . Here is the layout.

Here is a close up of the left side

and the right side

I was going to leave the white background alone but just had to put something on it so I used a round sponge and using blue ink sponged circles allover it. I also had a couple of packages of cute blue and green see through blubbles so added them everywhere. The swirl at the bottom was cut with my cricut using SCAL but I'm not sure where I got the file so that I can thank the person who designed it. I really liked the premade title because it has terry cloth on it.

I was to put a quote with the author on it but had a really hard time finding a quote that suited a baby having a bath. If I was normally going to write something it would have been Rub-a-dub-dub cute little guy in the tub or Rubber Ducky but didn't think that they would work for a quote. So I ask the great people in my yahoo groups to see if anyone had any idea's and of course they did. Several people sent me really cute quotes and poems and I finally decided to go with a poem and hope that it would be ok for the challenge. Thanks Mandi for the poem it suits the layout perfectly and thank you everyone else for your help also.

I have some new cards I made and another layout but I think that I will save them for another day. Take care all.

In My Easter Bonnet

I have been having so much fun over at Lets Scrap doing their challenges. I am getting the hang of using sketches to do my layouts and I'm finding that it's not taking me near as long to finish them. In the last week I have done 3 two page layouts and it would have taken me at least a month to have done that before. I also like how friendly everyone is and all the positive comments they make about everyones layouts.

The group have 3 types of things going on each week. On Monday they have a question of the week for us all to give input to. On Wednesday they have a sketch challenge. The sketches are usually 2 page sketches which is part of the reason I really like the group because its hard to find 2 pagers. If you only like to do one page then you can use just one side of the sketch. Then on Fridays they do a design team challenge. In this challenge one of the design team gives you rules to follow in doing your layout and you can use any sketch in the group folder to follow. I made the layout "In My Easter Bonnet" for last weeks design team challenge.

Here is my layout

Some of the things we were to follow for the challenge were to use a vintage photo, use 3 patterned papers, have homemade details or some souvenir or special embellishment, and use some of your favorite colors.

The pictures are of me at Easter when I was little, I think that alone makes them heritage lol. I used 4 patterned papers which were from my stash so I don't know what the brand names are but they all seemed to go together will and the bunny paper worked will for an Easter layout. Although purple isn't a color I would pick to wear it seems to be a color I gravitate to when buying scrapbooking paper. I tend to have a lot of it. I also love the shade of green I used. Lastly I made the flowers out of different size circles using the papers I used in the layout and then put a button in for the centre.

At first I wasn't that pleased with the layout as it just seemed to plain but it has grown on me. I hope you like it.

My First Layout Done With a Sketch

I recently joined the Let's Scrap Group which you can find here The group has chalenges using sketches that you use to do your layouts or cards. I have never used a sketch before but thought I would give it a try. Here is what this weeks sketch looks like Image

Here is my take on the sketch.

I decided to use the sketch to do a layout of my grandson, Jacob's first year. I didn't put a picture on the first page of the layout because I am saving that spot for a picture from his first birthday which is on May 7th. We may have to postpone his birthday party as he is sceduled for surgery on Wednesday and may not be recovered enough to have his party.

If you would like to read more about his surgery look at the post I made before this one.

Heritage Layout - My Great Grandmother

Image

It's taken me a lot longer to get this layout done than I had planned but I finally finished it tonight. It's another heritage layout, this time of my Great Grandmother Ann Brisco. As you may remember a while back I did a layout of my Great Grandfather who was Ann's husband. I had a lot of journaling to do and I was having trouble finding a way to hide it to make room to put another picture and keepsake on the layout. Retta, a friend in my Scrapbooking Class yahoo group, suggested a steamer trunk and was kind enough to make me a svg. that I could cut out with my Cricut. Its so nice to have friends who are willing to lend a hand when needed. Thanks Retta. I used grunge board paper and walnut distress ink for the straps on the trunk. The buckles, brads and lock were made to look rusted by using glossy accents and alcohol ink and then using the heat gun on them. I got the idea for the rusted look from this tutorial Magnets hold the buckles down and the bottom closed. I did a lot of distressing and some tearing of the paper. The paper is from the Graphic 45 line. I just love their paper for my heritage pages.

Karen, another cyber friend, had mentioned that when she did her heritage layouts that she was going to put a key of some sort on each layout to create some continuity. I loved the idea but couldn't decide which item from my Great Grandfathers layout to use for my Great Grandmothers so I used three items instead LOL. I put some butterflies, the ticket stub and if you look closely at the three flowers on the first page you will see a small clock in the centre of one of them.

Some of my siblings, nieces and nephew's are interested in the heritage layouts I do so I've put a close up of the journaling so that they can read a little about their ancestor. Anyone else that is interested please feel free to read it to. The pictures in the locket have yellowed quite a bit which is understandable as it was left to my grandfather in 1914 but was probably worn by Ann for many years before that. I hope that everyone enjoys the layout. I know I had lots of fun making it.

You're Dino-mite

Image
Image

Last year my husband and I went out to White Rock, British Columbia to get to meet our week old grandson for the first time. The day after arriving I went shopping at their local Scrapbook store and bought several different kinds of paper I could use for layouts of the new baby. One of the kinds was the dinosaur paper you see in the layout above. It wasn't until later that I learned that Jacob had a sleeper that looked almost identical to the little dinosaur paper I had bought. I'm not one to have people dress up to match my paper but I couldn't resist this time. At least I waited until his mommy had him in the sleeper to take the pictures instead of him being changed into it just for the picture LOL

Jacob and his parents moved back to our little home town in Ontario several months ago. It is so wonderful to have him so close now and of course I have taken tons of pictures of him. Now, if I could just find the time to scrap them all.

Prom 2007

Image
Here is a layout I did for my future daughter-in-law's album. The pictures are of Amy and my son Jason at their prom. It's hard to tell but the black and silver stripes are glittery and really stand out. I used lots of bling and silver stickles to go with the paper. The flourish was all one piece and was a bit tricky to get it centered and then cut up the middle to separate the 2 pages. It's the first time I've tried to do something like that and am really pleased with the way it turned out.
Jason really doesn't like to have his picture taken so it is often hard to get him to smile, so I just love the picture of Amy giving him a kiss on the cheek.
I hope you like the layout and had a great St. Patrick's day.

The Baby Express

Here is another layout I did of my precious Grandson Jacob. This one is done in a train theme. The doors of the train can be opened so you can see mini pictures of him. I put the pages in page protectors but I used an exacto knife to cut openings where the train doors and his name/age are so that they could still be opened if someone was looking through the album. I used cotton baton for the smoke coming out of the train engine and train brads in the title. I just love his little smile and his beautiful blue eyes.
Hope you like the layout.

Goin' Bananas

I had so much fun today working on this 2 page layout of my precious Grandson Jacob. He is almost 10 months old now but he was 2 1/2 months when the pictures were taken. I spent the most time trying to find monkeys to use and finally ended up using special stickers I had plus some paper piecing. In the 2nd picture Jacob's little hand was in just the perfect position and I was able to cut carefully around his little fingers and put the banana sticker in his hand so it looks like he is holding it.
