"Standing tall is a very admirable thing. There are very few stories in history of heroes who slouched to the rescue. Likewise, most individuals don't look up to people who are drooped over."

Foto Story Friday #91--Snow fun

Finally it got warm enough to go play in the snow. We drove out to the off road vehicle area to play. We tied a rope to the sled and the other end to a 4-wheeler.
ImageCan you see the excitement in her face? She was having a blast.
ImageGrandpa got in on the action and took the kids for a ride.
ImageWe did some good old fashion sledding and tubing as well. That snow was seriously deep! Can you see how Scott's legs are sunk in the snow? That was a rough climb back up the hill.
ImageThe lure of the trail called to Troy..... only he didn't realize just how deep it was until he got stuck!
ImageAfter laughing at him and watching him struggle, we sent Cody down to lend a hand. They made it a little way, but kept sinking back in. I went down to help, we got it half way up the hill, but it just wasn't working we had to get the tow rope and the truck! Good times good times!! :)
ImageRobby was having so much fun!
ImageEven Troy took a turn. It was a blast when you put the sled on the tube and held on to the rope for the ride of your life!

52 Weeks of Blessings- week 44 -- time with my parents

My parents don't live close and so it is always a blessing when they come to visit.  As mentioned in my previous post, they have come to visit and to watch my kids while we take a vacation.
Since they got here, I've tried to make the most of this time with them.  The same day they arrived, I got my dad to join me on a the 4-wheelers....
We just went to our close riding spot for a few quick runs on the trails.  Saturday afternoon was beautiful, so I took my parents on the 4-wheelers up to Makoshika State Park.  Dad drove one and I took the other with mom on the back.  Today we took them out to the OHV park.  Since we don't have a trailer, we loaded the green one in the truck bed and I road tripped the red one out with Mom riding double.
ImageHere's Dad preparing for a trail ride with Troy.
ImageOff they head....
ImageMom and I tended the kids.
ImageCan you see them?
ImageHere they are a little further down the trail.
ImageUp the hill they went.  I was impressed with my Dad!
ImageI backed the zoom off a bit to give a better idea of where they were.
ImageThey came down, a bit.
ImageThis is a backed-off shot of the area they are in, in the above photo.
ImageHere they come down the side.  I was a tiny bit worried that Troy was going to convince my dad to go over the edge!  That is the way we usually descend this hill!  When we first arrived I had taken my parents on a much milder trail.  They both enjoyed the rides.  On the way back home Dad drove and I rode double behind him.  Now my job is to get my mom to drive!  :)
We have also played several games with them on the Wii ...
ImageHere is Scott getting ready to bowl with his Grumpa!  Grammie, EmmaLece and I went for a lengthy walk!
ImageSaturday evening after dinner we played a few rounds of darts.  Grumpa was such a sport and let the twins take aim on his turn.
ImageOf course we had to give the Wii Fit a try!  Here's my Dad hoola hooping!  So funny!  :D
ImageEmmaLece and her Grammie doing a few torso twists!
I hope that my kids soak in all this time with their Grandparents.  I know I always loved going to visit my own grandparents.  Since they are Rv-ers, we get to have them visit us.  Time with parents and grandparents is such a blessing!

A newsy post, in case you're interested! :)

So I really should, every once in awhile, write a post that says what is going on 'round here.  So here it is:
After 2 weeks of the pukies and fevers, we were finally feeling better.  {The pukies went round and then made a second pass of a few of the kids.}  That is until Monday when Scott got pink eye!  Image
look at those swollen eyes!
Aargh!  I'm hoping, but NOT holding my breath, that the rest of the family will come through this unscathed!
Since we can't watch Kyle with the pink eye, we took the twins out riding yesterday and today.  I think we are raising adrenaline junkies!  Image
Watching the guys jump and begging to be taken on the jump!
Image
Watch out trails, here we come!
Image
Flying down the hill!
They love to ride and ride FAST, they like hills and bumps and jumps!  We went on some pretty aggressive trails today.  Trails that you really need to pay attention on. Now with the helmets on sitting in front, I can hardly see over their heads!  I usually bring up the rear, which means I get more time to see what is coming and that I get ALL the dirt!  Troy took us on a trail I'd never ridden, it had some areas that were off-camber ... I don't get all that excited when riding double in these areas, but we did it and I survived!  I wish I had a pocket camera, so I could take a few shots of some of these trails.  Probably people would think us a little off camber for taking them out with us, but oh well!  The other trail we went on, I had been on and was a bit worried about.  There are areas where the trees are very close on both sides, there are areas when you go up-down and right back up.  These are not trails for feint at heart!   We had a great time all in all!
Image
Following the guys out to the OHV area. You know you're in MT if you see licensed 4-wheelers cruising down the public roads!
Recently we got midterms .... Some were good and other not so much!

Our two older boys have a nearness problem..... as in they can't be near one another with out some hitting, kicking, tripping etc. After a fight on Saturday, they were then sat on the bench and told to hold hands!  Oh yeah, they were thrilled with that!  After 20 mins, we had a little talk about how really in the end, all you have is family, so learn to get along!  For the next little while they will be sitting next to one another.  Hope that this works!
The girls are all kinds of emotional upheavals! I've decided that girls are not my favorite anymore!  I don't deal well with all the crying over weird things!  Can ya tell I'm not a very emotional kind a gal?  I'm sure we'll survive this phase SOMEHOW!

Ride with us video

Some movies and stills of us out playing  on Friday morning.  Starring the Guy, the Girl, Gramps and Friend.  {The Girl is not the one doing the double tricks, she needs a little more gumption for that ..... maybe next time!}
Sorry about the quality, when compressed into a quicktime video, it lost quality.  In iMovie it is crystal clear.

Foto-story Friday #13-- another Guy and Girl story

ImageBack in April I told you a story.   This will have to be considered another chapter in the "those who have" story......
The Guy and the Girl have taken friends out for some fun on the trails.  Both bikes are being ridden double and seeing as they are the courteous type, they give the friends the big one and take the little one for themselves.  All goes well, they ride all over, up and down hill and dale.  There are some great hills {like the above pictured} in their normal stomping, er, riding grounds.  The Girl and the Guy have taken this trail many times both alone and double on the big machine.  The Girl hesitates and asks:  "Do you really think we can take this hill double on this bike?"  The Guy assures her they will make it.  She is still not sure but gets a nice tight grip on the bars and squeezes her eyes shut.  They make it quite a ways up when it starts to bog down, no problem, the Guys down shifts and keeps her running.  Soon she feels them slipping and sliding down!  The Girl's eyes fly opens in time to hear:  "I've got to stand up, our front wheels are not on the ground!"  Like she has a choice!  He stands and she flings off the back end!  The Girl makes a few summersaults, her glasses become air-born and her biggest worry is weather or not the machine is rolling after and how to find the much needed glasses before getting smunched!  The Guy calls out: "Are you OK?"  She thinks, 'He must be OK and he must have the bike under control...'  "Yeah, I'm alright, a little dirty," she hollers back as she dusts off and gets back to her feet.  The friends?  Um, yeah, they are waiting at the bottom watching in shock!  The Guy laid it over on its side to avoid the bike chasing the Girl down.  The couple right the machine and walk it {.... well, there might have been some pushing too ....} up the rest of the hill.  The friends, they chicken and don't take it double!  The friends doubled back up, upon reaching the summit and the group rides off to conquer another trail.
There were bruises that the Girl sustained, as well as this pictured scrapped up elbow. How does it look today?
Image
Not too bad, still a little pink. Think it may just be a badge of honor for the Girl!
Happy 4-wheeling to you all!

A Story... "Those who have..."

Once upon a time there was a girl whose mother was against motorized vehicles such as: motorcycles and 4-wheelers {They did have a gas powered go-cart that was a lot of fun.} This poor deprived child grew up and amazingly enough survived without such "toys". One day she got married to a guy who was raised with said motorized recreational vehicles. They would go out riding in the desert with friends on their "bikes". The girl still wasn't sure about owning one, but she was starting to enjoy riding behind, bouncing down the trails. Finally, nearly 15 years after marriage, she gave in and consented to getting a 4-wheeler. She is now addicted to riding and can't wait for the next day out on the trails. The crazy guy who married her is so very happy now that he has a "toy"! He told the girl when instructing her in the finer art of 4-wheeling that there are two types of riders: "Those who have wrecked and those who will!" After a few weeks in her new past time, she has joined the ranks of "those who have"!
She was feeling quite confident in her new skills and her older children were gaining their own skills. She decided to let her 13 1/2 year old son lead and she would follow carrying a passenger, her 12 year old daughter. Now the machine she was riding belonged to friends and her son rode hers. She sent the helmet with her son. The borrowed machine is a step bigger and with bigger comes more power and a little bit wider. {difference in the two is; Width, hers: 40.7 inches and the other: 43.9 inches Wheel bases, hers: 44.5 inches and the other: 49.1 inches Turning radius, hers: 8.5 ft and the other: 10.8 ft...now that doesn't seem like a lot but....} They cruised down the trail and rounded a corner to be met with this:ImageNow, she was going nice and slow, she figured her son made it around just fine, she could too. The girl thought that she had turned her wheels enough toward the little hill to avoid falling in the hole....Well she didn't quite make it around and ended up IN! From this angle one can see just how to get around it, but the other angle is not quite as clear!Image So the girl and her daughter fell in the hole.... the daughter fell off the back corner right onto a hard sagebrush root! the girl fell off and sorta landed on her daughter. Lots of dirt covered them, and the 4 wheeler? Well, it came in the hole too. It landed on its side. The daughter wondered out loud, "How will we get out?" That big tough girl grabbed the back rail and flipped it back on its wheels, down shifted to 1st and gave 'er a little gas! The machine climbed right out... mostly but since the girl was still standing in the hole, she couldn't reach the back brake. They had to let the 4-wheeler come back in the hole and try it again. By this time her son realized that he was no longer being followed and went to find his mom and sister. He found them, in a hole, covered in dirt! With her son outside the hole holding on the front and her daughter in the back, she walked it out again. Success! Since her son could now grab the brake! They were out of the hole with bruises and shaky knees! Mostly, that girl hurt her pride! Her son figured since they were fine they could continue down the trail, but she just wanted to go back and relax! Upon returning, she did the right thing and informed her friend that she had dumped her "bike" in a hole! Of course, the friend wanted to be sure they were alright. It turns out that the friend knew of another who fell in the same hole, but with not quite as good of results. The girl and her daughter were well watched out for that day!
Now this same gal, has added another fall to her list of "those who have". Recently {OK, yesterday} she was out riding with her husband and another friend. The guy took them out on some trails, hill climbing and descending! {One day she will bring the camera and get a picture of the area.} So they were traversing this hill and her husband stops to let her know, "half-way down you're going to make a right turn, so ride the back brakes." OK, no problem the girl thinks she can handle this. She waits to relay the message to the friend, then starts down. A few seconds later she realizes that there is NO way she is going to make that turn and decided to tap the front brakes.... the decision was a bit too late and, well, the machine was now only on 2 wheels! The girl panics and readies to jump off. It happened quick, but it seemed like slow-mo at the same time. She is off and standing there for a split second she thinks she can catch the "bike".... a quick shout brings her back to reality and she lets it roll over a few times then flips it back on the wheels. The guy runs over to make sure the girl is OK. Once again she is fine and only her pride is hurt! He guides her back and then over the bump and back on the trail! Since she is fine he tells her that from his vantage point it was kinda funny! They continue on down the trail, all is well. Thus ends this chapter in "those who have"!
Happy 4-wheeling to you all!

4-wheeling fun!

The much anticipated pictures and even a video of where we go riding. This is just a small part of the area we go riding at. It is the OHV {off highway vehicle} park. It is just a few miles out of town and it is SO fun, trails everywhere! By the way, that's me in the video! Saturday we were in another area. I'll have to get some shots of it as well and tell a little adventure story ..... stay tuned.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
