fabulous trio THE LIQUORICE STICK ALL-SORTS

in its many forms
ALAN BARNES (clarinet and sax) has played with countless
bands from Humphrey Lyttleton to Freddie Hubbard and has
won over 20 major British Jazz Awards as well as being BBC
jazz instrumentalist of the year twice!
PAUL CLARVIS (drums) is one of the busiest studio percussionists
in the country.
JIM HART (vibraphone), an astonishing virtuoso, is relatively new on the scene
but already in great demand nationwide.

Narnia and Macc

Image
Having just read that brussel sprout and cabbage crops have been devastated by the weather and food prices will rise, now may be the time to start thumbing seed catalogues. There is a new group Food4macc who are keen to help amateur food growers in a friendly and mutually supportive way. Why not join them at the Town House Pub on Thursday to find out more? As they say 'why not reduce your carbon footprint and grow your neighbourhood into a nicer place?'. Quite.

The Jazz and Blues society is underway again this Tuesday. Join them at the Nags Head to listen to great recordings with a friendly crowd.

Thank you Holly for your New Year wishes but 'On a sad note my husbands cousin Dan is in a terrible situation at the moment - stuck in Columbia in a terrible physical situation with no way home. We are trying to raise some money for him - '

Something for the weekend?

[Southy+poster.jpg]

It appears to be a particularly musical weekend around town: there's Richard Leach's 7 stars of Jazz in Bollington on Saturday and more jazz with Anniie's Saints and Sinners at the Baths Hotel on Sunday afternoon in Macc. There is a choral performance of Spem in Alium in Christ Church (see post below)and Clonter Opera perform 'Rigoletto'. Pop Thugs play the Swan with Two Necks on Saturday and and the Box Groove Coolers are at Ronnie's on Sunday.

If you fancy something a bit more physical get along to the opening of the new Skate Park in South Park and if its your lungs that need a buzz, a night
at Bolly Comedy Club tonight should do the trick ; if you heckle that is!

Something for the weekend?

ImageWell we got a long to Gawsworth last night in beautiful evening sunshine. What a great set up: splendid lawns for a picnic and a glass of wine and then undercover tiered seating and stage with the back drop of the glorious old Hall. We like the idea that if you are booked to see a show in the evening you can arrive as early as 2 pm so you can view the house and garden (incl in event price) and take your time. Benn was everything we hoped for and more: wise, thought provoking, idiosyncratic, effortlessly engaging and very funny.

Anyway back to weekend action. We are going to the view of the Festival Flog it auction on Saturday at North Rode, because we are nosy and have a terrible weakness for certain types of textiles. Remember its the last weekend of the Three Shires Festival so try to see those things you've been meaning to get to. Have a look at their web site for all the events to catch.
There's Trad Jazz tomorrow night with Anniie`s Saints and Sinners Band playing at the Egerton Arms, Chelford and local non jazz Dazed & Confused at the Nags Head on Saturday.
Ofcourse its the wonderful Clover Bank farm Farmers Market on Saturday with over 45 stalls and this time featuring a special Book Launch by Cheshire author John Lea with readings of 'A Rural Meander' at 9.30, 10.15 and 11am.
Also On Saturday, Congleton Writers' Forum is performing "Yarns and Yesterdays" at Victoria Mill, Foundry Bank, Congleton, as part of the Three Shires Textile Festival, the theme being their mill-town heritage and the River Dane. There is also an exhibition in an upstairs room including the Beartown Patchworkers and Quilters and other artists.
