Shut Your Eyes & Sing To Me….

I happened it without thinking…without worrying…it just flowed due to the song on the radio.

An amazing, innocent musical moment that lead to a startling realization and a flood of questions.

The turning point.

And then came the aftermath…

So much has happened since that moment - my head is spinning but I still clearly replay that moment and am just in awe of how it changed perspective.

Boom...

To quote the Drum Bum in the Sun – “It is certainly important to intend and create positivity whenever possible, but to argue with what is happening can only create suffering.”

It has been a doozy of a day so far – one where you just have to stand and scream
because absolutely nothing is going smoothly.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

And when you are done screaming, you open your email at lunch and
get a reminder that it could be way worse….

First thought - He can thank every single one of his guardian angels
for walking away from this accident and he should totally buy the same car.

Second thought - Man!  They do not make cars like they used to!!

Stormy Sandy!

We had survived the storm with a minimal power outage and two slats knocked from the fence.  We considered ourselves lucky and are just dealing with having no internet or TV.  We watched the news at a friend’s house and just marveled at the destruction – it looked like something out of a movie.  I got updates on my friends and family and offered help where we could.  The longest wait being for my godfather who lives out on Long Island.

After three days off, I returned to the office to find it intact – like nothing had ever happened.  Plus a bunch of emails from companies that we work with that ranged from concerned about us to angry over delays getting answers and shipments.

Our CEO arrived with two generators and 14 gas cans.  Gas was given to those that needed it the most for generators or who had had to leave their homes and were dealing with bigger things than sitting in a gas line.  He sent a co-worker who lives in PA home with the empty gas cans to fill up and the next day the rest of us got our tanks filled.  (Like I needed another reason to love this company!!)

As the sense of “normal” started to creep in, we found out that a nor’easter is coming and there was an earthquake nearby…… a sign of the apocalypse and NJ is the epicenter?

To top things off, my dad crashed with a tractor trailer.  True to his name – Lucky - he is ok.  There will be a bunch of chiropractor visits in his future and his car is toast (hello, jaws of life!).   Plus, he can’t get a rental car due to the hurricane aftermath…..but he is in one piece.

It’s definitely been a whirlwind!!

Storm Prep!!

Rush brunch on Sunday so Team C & E can get home due to coastal evacuation

Sandbag and plastic wrap windows at grandma’s  house (so the buyer does not drive the price down more)

Deliver garden greens in trade for squash

Fill 20 sandbags for garage and front door

Find whatever died in the shed before storing rest of yard stuff

Get hit in head with rake while doing so

Lash BBQ to back porch along with the furniture

Envy the cat's storm prep....

Remind Dad that the storm is a big deal

Put mag light on the basement steps

Take a non-storm panic outing to decompress a bit before heading back home to…..

Fill 14 glass gallons of water

Bring in garbage cans and wedge them in between the cars…blocking the outlet for the sump pump

Find all candles to make a unique mix of roses, evergreens and limes

Watch news and wonder at the people that ignore the evacuation requests and then don’t understand why the first responders are not coming back to get them.

Text and take calls from people I have not heard from in quite a while that are worried about me with the storm

Drink wine and write in my journal by candlelight

Realize that the cats did do some storm prep.... they warmed up the bed!!
