10 Effective Ways to Boost Metabolism

Every time we eat or drink, we can thank our metabolism for converting all those calories into energy. Our body size, gender, and age all factor into our metabolic rate, but there are also ways to independently increase its speed. And the faster our metabolism, the more calories our body burn off.

Here are 10 ways to keep your metabolism running high all day:

1. Sleep!
Our metabolism are related to our sleep, and not getting enough of it may seriously slow down our metabolism. 6 - 8 hours sleep daily are the best for adult.

2. Drink green tea.
Not only does this superfood pack an antioxidant-punch, researchers have found it speeds metabolism as well. Plus, it’s naturally calorie-free, so there’s no reason not to enjoy a mug (or two).

3. Amp up workout intensity.
Slow and steady may not always win the race. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), such as interval runs, are quick intense exercises that can jumpstart metabolism and keep us burning calories longer after the workout is over.

4. Don’t skip breakfast.
It's the most important meal of the day and it will quick-start your metabolism for the whole day after a long rest of sleep. You should snack on something small, like a bowl of Greek yogurt even you have no AM appetite.

5. Pump some iron.
The weight room isn’t only to help bulk up or get lean. Lifting weights (heavy or light) can also help speed resting metabolic rate, making those dumbbells our new best friends. Don't worry of getting bulky.

6. Gulp some H2O.
Drinking enough water is a simple way to speed up digestion and burn calories. Daily intake 2 litre of water for female and 3 litre for male are recommended. So bring a water bottle with you everywhere you go.

8. Eat wisely.
Who knew eating could actually help speed calorie burn? Certain foods like tuna and grapefruit have been shown to speed up metabolic rate. Packing in protein has also shown to boost metabolism, so pick some eggs or oatmeal over pancakes at the breakfast table for a morning metabolism boost.

9. Grab a cup of coffee.
A cup of coffee (or the caffeine in it) is absorbed into the blood stream very quickly, speeding up heart rate and provide a metabolic boost that peaks at about three hours after drinking but don't over drink.

10. Laugh a lot!
A little laughter may go a long way. Scientists have found that as little as 10 minutes of laughter per day can burn energy. Just another reason to stay smiling!

Know your protein powders well before you consume.

Protein is one of the three major, or macro, nutrients. Unlike carbohydrates and fats (the other two types of macronutrents), proteins are comprised of nitrogen-containing groups called amino acids. There are about 20 different types of amino acids commonly found in foods. All of them are important for building and maintaining muscle, but 8 are vital. These are what’s known as the Essential Amino Acids (EAAs). Contrary to what most athletes believe, there is no actual requirement for protein; the body simply has a requirement for the eight essentials. The EAAs cannot be synthesized in any of your tissues, so they must be obtained through high protein foods. Lean meats, fish, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, and soybeans are good food sources of protein. Powdered whey, casein, egg, and soy proteins offer the same amino acids as whole food sources in more concentrated doses – with lower levels of calories, fat, carbs, cholesterol, and other non-protein ingredients.

Image

Whey Proteins
Currently the undisputed king of proteins. Here’s why: whey proteins are quickly and easily digested (hence the “fast-acting” description that they’re often given), they are loaded with essential amino acids (EAAs) – including the three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and they contain subcomponents (microfractions) that appear to provide benefits above and beyond amino acids and elemental nitrogen. Whey is one of two major dairy proteins and accounts for about 20% of the protein in milk.

Casein Proteins
Comprising 80% of the protein in milk, casein is the dominant dairy protein. Oft referred to as a “slower-acting” or “time-released” protein, because they are digested and absorbed much more slowly than whey or soy proteins. Casein proteins are especially useful when taken at bedtime and during other prolonged periods without eating.

Milk Proteins
Milk proteins are pretty much what you’d expect: dried milk with most of the fat and carbohydrate removed. Like liquid moo juice, powdered milk proteins are about 20% whey protein and 80% casein protein, so utilization is somewhere in between the two.

Egg Proteins
Ask any dietitian, “What’s the best source of protein?” and eggs will probably top the list. In fact, most nutrition textbooks still refer to eggs as the “gold standard” for protein quality. With loads of essential amino acids (EAAs) and some of the highest scores in all measures of protein quality, we’re not going to argue. Naturally dairy-free, eggs are a great alternative to whey, casein, and whole milk proteins for those with milk allergies or severe lactose intolerance.

Soy Proteins
Vegetarian? Don’t do well with dairy or egg? Go green. Like their animal counterparts, soy proteins contain all of the required amino acids in sufficient amounts to support muscle growth and development.

Blended Proteins
If you can only afford one type of protein, this is probably the type that you should go with. Combining faster-, intermediate-, and slower-protein sources in one convenient place, blended proteins give you more sustained protein digestion than single-source proteins like whey, casein, egg, or soy.

Live Longer and Better with Wine

For many decades, wine has been known as prized beverage throughout the world. Today wine, especially red wine, is prized for different reasons and mainly for it's health benefits. It was learned that drinking red wine in moderation might be one of the keys to healthy heart and a long life.

Image

It was found that men who consumed moderate amounts if red wine had more than 30% reduced rusk in all cause mortality, including heart disease and all the types of cancer.

The latest studies provide even more reason to toast to your health as they show that wine is good but also for preventing other serious conditions such as cancer, arthritis and age-related macular degeneration.

Wine's positive effect on heart disease and other conditions is due mainly to its high concentration of powerful group of antioxidants known as phonetic compounds or flovonoid found in the skins and seed of red grapes.

Image

Phonetic compounds by no means act alone when it comes to preventing disease. Resveratrol is another disease-resistant flovonoid that covers the skins of grapes and red wine and it help to prevent clot formation in the coronary arteries, resvetatrol gas also been shown to increase HDL cholesterol levels.

More and new studies of resvertrol are now focusing on its potential anti-cancer ability. Quercetin is another powerful antioxidant flovonoid that is found not only in red grape skins but also in fruits and other vegetables, including onions and garlic. It is gaining recognition for its role in fighting cancer and heart disease although it has been overlooked as an important compound in wine in the past.

Smoking Will Shorten Men's Penis Size

Image

Besides causing heart disease, stroke and lung cancers, smoking also affects male virility. Not only concerning erectile dysfunction or impotence, cigarettes are also able to shorten the size of the penis.

Image

According to Dr. Salimpour, the negative effect of smoking on the penis is the same as the effect of smoking on heart. This is a blood vessel damage, which makes blood flow obstructed.

Basically this is the effect of elastin, the elastic connective tissue protein and allows tissues in the body to get back into shape after stretching or contraction. In this case, elastin affects the ability of penile erection.

Dr. Salimpour explained, elastin can stretch like rubber. This is what happens to the penis as a result of increased blood flow.

Smoking can damage body’s ability to do that, so it could affect the size of the penis and erectile ability. But researchers could not determine how many cigarettes can damage elastin and shorten the penis size.

Would you still smoke after reading this? Decide yourself to stay long or short. =D

Boob-staring Good for Men

HERE’s a simple “secret” to ensure longevity for men – stare at women’s breasts for 10 minutes a day to live an additional five years.
Image

Image

Both Sin Chew Daily and China Press reported that a German research published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that men ogling at breasts for 10 minutes a day was equivalent to a 30-minute gym workout.

Sin Chew Daily reported yesterday that the team had spent five years researching 200 men.

Results showed that men who liked to stare at women’s breasts have lower blood pressure, suffer less cardiovascular disease and have slower heart beat.

Image

The daily also quoted gerontologist Dr Karen Weatherby as saying that sexual desire ensured better blood circulation and led to better health.

However, it was reported that reporters had attempted to search the article in the journal’s website but failed. Thus, there were doubts whether there was indeed such an article in the journal.

Image

Even the kids have the knowledge about this. This should be men's daily activity for a better health. =D

You Are What You Eat

Hello people, today I'm gonna talk about you are what you eat!

The food you eat is your body's fuel, supplying the energy you need for everything that you do, every minute of your life. Energy supplies which are not used immediately are stored in your body for future use and accumulate as fat. Why would anyone want to store more fat in his body and then complain of putting on more weight? This is one area where saving for the future is not advisable because your body is not an energy-saving bank.

However unusual or delicious a particular food may be, as far as your body is concerned, it is simply a source of fuel the enable you to survive. Whatever you eat, be it the finest caviar or a humble potato, your body uses it in the same way - by breaking down into nutrients and converting these into energy.

The energy in food is found in three main forms: proteins, carbohydrates and fats. This energy is measured in calories.

The Energy In Food
What you eat is significant too. Digesting any food uses energy; but some, especially those high in fat, need less energy to digest than proteins or carbohydrates such as grains and pulses. All food provides some calories, but some are more concentrated in the amount they contain.

Exercise And Fatigue
When you exercise, your muscles convert the stored energy from your body into compounds that enable you to move and produce body heat. the main fuels for this process are carbohydrate and fat. Your body stores carbohydrate as glycogen in your muscles and liver. The point at which you feel fatigue during exercise often coincides with a depletion of your carbohydrate stores. Once these are used up, your body calls upon your reserves of fat, and starts to metabolize fatty acids (the main chemical units of fat) in order to release energy. Your fat reserves are larger than your carbohydrate.

Gain Confidence To Lose Weight
Be patient! It took time to put on weight, so getting it off will also take some time.

After all, my general advise would be to stay fit, you only have one body. And eat well - food is what makes your body work. Good food makes your body last longer.

Whisky Protects You From Cancer!

Image

A good news for those people who drink alcohol. Some scientists believe that whiskey may be one of the keys to preventing the Big C.

For a quite a number of years, liquor has been known not only to bring destructive intoxication and addiction upon its patrons, but also as deterrent to a healthy lifestyle. But as a potential weapon against cancer? Sounds controversial.

Rumors that single malt whiskey may be a tool to combat cancer have begun circulating recently. Whether it actually holds any water has yet to be proven. According to one of the theory's proponents, a consultant to the whiskey industry, Dr. Jim Swan, the antioxidants present in whiskey, particularly ellagic acid, can reduce the risk of developing cancer, since this acid fights the unstable atoms that aid in rapid cell replication. He added that the more cells were produced, the more likely that rogue cancer cell will be born. "Whiskey can protect you from cancer and science proves it," he said, speaking at the EuroMedLab 2005 conference in Glasgow. Dr Swan explained that ellagic acid, which is in greater concentration in whiskey than in red wine, breaks down the harmful free radicals present in our body.
