Hello everyone! It's so close to summer break I am getting antsy! By the time this post goes live my children will finally be on Summer break! We don't have any travel plans but I just can't wait to have my kid at home. What are your summer plans? I know we'll be doing lots of cooking and taking our lunches to the park. But other than that we'll play it by ear. One of the great things about being in our home is that there's room for everyone to be in the kitchen! It's been such a blessing. I'm hoping that the kids will get to cook more and more.

Steps Toward Packing an Entirely Reusable Lunch to Help You Save Money, Your Health, and the Environment
Welcome to Take It Tuesday! Today we have a guest post from Hannah from the Wild Mint if you've never shopped there, take a peek at all the wonderful items they have in stock. Today Hannah is talking to us about lunch gear! That's right up my alley, so enjoy! Thanks Hannah!
Steps Toward Packing an Entirely Reusable Lunch to Help You Save Money, Your Health, and the Environment
The end of the year can be such as busy time, especially for parents! Family gatherings, entertaining, and gift giving are joyous events but time-consuming nonetheless. Amidst all of this, the ho-hum lunch packing routine for your kids tends to get put on the back burner, so we are here to give you some new, fresh ideas and bring back a healthy, eco-friendly lunch for your kids!
Whether it’s incorporating cute and colorful reusable lunch gear into a holiday gift idea or setting New Year’s resolutions to work towards packing healthier lunches, there’s never a wrong time to steer your focus back on healthy, reusable lunches. And when you consider all the potential monetary, health and environmental savings you and your family can benefit from, I think you’ll agree!
The typical disposable lunch consists of a brown or plastic bag, disposable drink, plastic baggies, prepackaged food, utensils and straws. So the switch to a reusable lunch means that everything in it can be eaten, reused, recycled, or composted.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
* Instead of using plastic baggies, place your child’s favorite snack in reusable sandwich bags
* Ditch the drink cartons and opt for a reusable alternative like a Lifefactory water bottle. Their 9oz bottle is perfect for kid’s lunches and super lightweight for mom to fit in her purse as well!
* Keep warm food tasty in insulated food containers
I’ve run the numbers in a “Lunch Savers” analysis and the cost savings of packing a reusable lunch versus a lunch made up of disposable items is definitely nothing to scoff at. This is the time of year pinching a few more pennies here and there definitely won’t hurt! So, after evaluating a typical child’s lunch, my team and I at Wild Mint determined that packing a reusable lunch can save $2.32 per day. That’s over $400 per child per school year!
The health benefits are also a huge part of making lunches reusable. Waste-free alternatives such as the examples above help avoid exposure to BPA, phthalates, PVCs, lead, and other heavy metals and toxic chemicals. Many disposable and prepackaged lunch materials, like plastic, contain harmful chemicals that can leach into the food and drink they come in contact with.
Prepackaged foods are also often high in fat, sugar, sodium, and preservatives and made with artificial colorings, artificial flavorings, and many unpronounceable ingredients. Prepping your own foods will decrease junk food pitfalls and nourish your child with fresher ingredients.
Last but certainly not least is the eco-impact of disposable vs. reusable lunches. We are creating a huge amount of waste every year with the paper, plastic, Styrofoam and other materials used
in school lunches (18,000 pounds of waste for an average elementary school, WasteFreeLunches.org). But you can make a big difference by making some little changes.
* Cut up fruits and veggies. Kids will often only take a few bites out of an uncut apple or whole banana. With nowhere to put the leftover fruit without making a mess, it often gets thrown away.
* Pack delicious lunches your kids will love and keep them guessing with great lunch inspiration and recipes, like the ones here on Give Peas a Chance!
* Pack together. Kids are more likely to eat a meal they’ve helped plan and prepare! (WasteFreeLunches.org)
* Food scraps. Have your kids save their food scraps for composting or even taking to a nearby farmer or zoo where they can use the food scraps to feed animals.
I hope I’ve helped you feel confident in how to pack a completely reusable lunch for your little ones. You can read even more details on cost savings data and reusable ideas here, and if you ever have any questions or ideas, please email me (Hannah) at [email protected]!

We were founded April, 2005 and have over 100 communities in 32 states, and over 25,000 active members. We were all in different places but we all share one need. A group of people who UNDERSTANDS us. Who understands that we can love our children and still miss being a grown-up some days. Who can give us a hug when we have a bad day. Who can be on the other end of the phone when the baby is crying and we don't know what else to do. Who gets us. Who we can get. We need each other.

Clos Bourguignon, Paris- Guest Blogger Misao
CLOS BOURGUIGNON, 39 rue de Caumartin, 75008 PARIS
OK now things are getting serious!!
This is my favorite restaurant ever! My bad, this isn't a restaurant, but a "bistrot parisien", a genuine one, actually you cannot find anything more Parisian than this one!
Located next to department stores like Galeries Lafayette or Printemps Haussman, close to the Opéra Garnier and most notably to l'Olympia (one of the most prestigious venues in Paris), it's the perfect place to enjoy a simple but yet very tasty meal after your shopping session, after attending a ballet or a concert: actually you might meet the artists themselves (Henri Salvador -the legendary singer- used to have supper there). The place is friendly, the boss -Monsieur Louis- yet himself a star for decades is just as simple and warm as you would expect from a family restaurant.
They have the best fresh products, VIP and trendy customers and the staff is nice and never haughty, they greet you with a big smile and shake hands with you when you leave.
Enough chit chat, now about the food.

About the food:
First pic shows "Langue de Chat à la sauce périgourdine" with French fries and salad.
The meat dish is the famous langue de chat, rather impossible to find at a reasonable price in any bistrot here, for fun facts, google "langue de chat de boeuf" you will find the link to Le Clos Bourguignon :) Basically, it's the most tender part at the core of a rumsteak (hope I'm making it clear, it's not easy to write in English about food). Just make very thin slices and then the meat will melt in your mouth, it's delicious!!
The -hmm so yummy- dressing is a recipe from Périgord, at the South West of France (famous for its foie gras) using green beans, asparagus, cauliflower, chicory, foie gras, truffle, lemon , salt, pepper, oil, xérès vinegar.
The fries are homemade of course, and the salad gives a lighter tone to the meal which is most welcome.
Price 14,50euros. (The price might seem a bit high but lines up with mass restaurants like Hippopotamus. And trust me, the taste is in no way comparable.) Let's say, to eat the langue de chat is to indulge oneself :)

Pike Place Market Seattle WA- Guest Blogger Sarah
I love Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington. It is an anything goes type of spot that is rich in Seattle culture. Here you will see a large cross section of people going about their business. Many days there are a multitude of street performers peddling their talents to interested crowds. Everyone seems to walk at a leisurely pace as they take in the sights, sounds, and smells unique to Seattle. If you can think of it, it can probably be found at Pikes Place Market. There really is something for everyone, including things such as teas, handmade jewelry, glass art, produce, music, nuts, and the ever popular fish. In fact Pikes Place Market is very well known for their famous fish throwing. My favorite thing to buy at the market is the fresh flowers. Bigger and prettier than anything you will see in flower shops, but more fragrant and much cheaper. I can honestly say that there is not a single trip to Seattle's open air market that has not left me feeling welcome in that busy city.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. ~From the movie Annie
This post was sent in by Sarah, and I absolutely agree with her Pike Place market is FANTASTIC!! When we visited we of course took the girls down to where they throw fish. There are quaint little shops for clothing, loose leaf teas, Polish Pottery, cafés, fresh produce and flowers- GORGEOUS flowers and places to dine galore! From great little side street booths with fresh Chinese Bao, Irish Pubs with awesome Steak and Kidney pies- SO good to fine dinning. So much to see! THANK YOU Sarah for sharing with us! Share your little gem with is! To send in your post click here for the email address.- Natesgirl
