Regular stuff..

Have been away a long time.... just don't seem to have time to sit and write.Ok here I go..
The Vande mataram controversy....what is it? Unbelievable what all can happen in this country. And for the first time I think the BJP is on the right side of the divide although the way of going about is wrong. I mean how can anyone say Vande mataram is anti Islam? First of all it were how could it have been made the national song?Where were these guardians of Islam at the time? And now that it is the national song, it is part of our national pride it is objectionable.The basic problem first of all I have is placing one's religion over their country. That I can't take, whatever religion it may be.but here apart from those who are making the objections that isn't the case.Every one sings Vande mataram. We used to sing it in our school. Did the muslim students just keep quite at that time? No.Every one sang coz whatever be it's history, the reason we sing it is patriotic. Who really cars what it means as long as you understand the patriotic emotions behind it.And it's not an ordinary song it is the national song for god's sake. Ok people are right that it shouldn't be forced and all that but that's beside the point. Why should anyone object in the first place?And citing religious reasons over that..
I don't think the ordinary muslim has any problem with singing it as it praises our country and evokes feelings of patriotism in us.But sadly now it has become a political issue. The Congress has very wrongly made it one by making it unmandatory. I mean that isn't the problem! They should have talked and convinced the one not ready by making them understand the futility of such an objection.Then BJP came with the compulsory thing and as everyone knows about BJP's history, it's become a us versus them fight instead of simply addressing to some few misguided souls.Do these people really don't have anything else to do? I mean is this the biggest problem facing Indian muslims today. Hell is it even in the top 50?I think they just sit there finding out various ways to prove their claims to be guardians of Islam. I really think the muslim people or even just the one in public viewshould come in front rubbishing these voices.
And this really isn't restricted to muslims. Every religion in India is fighting for it's own survival. I don't know against whom, but they are fighting.That's all they know. Let everything else go to hell.
Just wondering where does a foreign coach stand in terms of nationalism. I mean everyone knows sports is a big part of a country's heritage.So much money and importance is given so that the name of the country shines on the world stage. In such a scenario if somebody helps some other team defeat his own team in the name of professionalism what would you say?What is more important your job or your country? Professionalism or nationalism? When on one side people are giving their lives away for their country...Ok this may be a stupid argument but it sure is worth a thought...

well, I have always had problems with terms like 'national song' or 'national language' and the like. In a country of immense diversity how can you say one is 'national'.
Also, though I accept that the ordinary muslim didn't have a problem with the song, in these tough times I think that's a sweeping statement! If they do have problems I'm on their side.

@Raksha,

"If they do have problems I'm on their side."

Just because they have "problems", you're on their side? You wont care to go into what their "problems" actually are and see if their "problems" are legitimate?

"well, I have always had problems with terms like 'national song' or 'national language' and the like. In a country of immense diversity how can you say one is 'national'."

A nation is its people, it is NOT an entity separate from its people. All objections to terms like "national song" arise from a lack of understanding of this basic fact. When a person sings Vande Mataram, he sings praise to the nation - the nation includes you and me, every Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Parsi, Tribal born and living in it. And so, by singing Vande Mataram, you're simply singing praise to these people - to yourself, your parents, your siblings, your friends and every other human being with whom you share a life in India. I really dont see what the "problem" is in singing praise to 17% of all humanity and wishing a billion human beings good luck! I mean, have we become so selfish that we object to a call to merely wish the wellbeing of a billion human beings with ridiculous arguments like "We bow only to Allah", "Am I not a patriot if I dont sing Vande Mataram"?

I fail to understand, since when did Allah ask people to sing praise only to him and not to any other entity? Are Muslims saying Allah (God) is so jealous that he cannot tolerate his followers singing praise to a billion beautiful human beings? No, a merciful, loving, selfless Allah would never do so. A merciful, loving, selfless Allah would always sanction any love and praise for fellow human beings - and that is what Islam exactly preaches in spirit.

What a useless controversy! What our Muslim brothers (those who objected) did is show an embarassing lack of understanding of the spirit of their own religion. Heh!
