Stoked to provide free static website #hosting in the EU on renewable energy with xmit.co.
I wanted a highly available platform for my own stuff, but built multitenant from the start. 2 years in, collected some metrics. Over 9000 launches across just over 256 domains.
The experience leaped forward in the last month, with the release of the Oncle Bob graphical interface, analytics, much improved docs, and on-site support. Never been a better time to join us!
xmit.co now has analytics I would argue preserve privacy. Would love to hear if anybody disagree. https://xmit.dev/posts/analytics/
Having minimally built https://xmit.co https://onclebob.com I'm thinking about the rest of the static web authoring experience, particularly around #11ty, and realize I know very little of its ecosystem. Are there project bootstrap(per)s? Abstractions for templates and/or themes? Web admins/editors, maybe with something akin to a WYSIWG-ish markdown editor and a live iframe preview? The more I find the less I build. A goal for myself: have something my family finds pleasant to use to build (at least) microsites. Still a long way to go on many fronts. #indieweb
And we're live! https://onclebob.com is still very early, feedback immensely valuable. Start, build, preview, launch static websites without the terminal. Only supports xmit.co as a hosting provider for now, but I'm very open to supporting more :)
Found 2 bugs working on Oncle Bob (Want a site? Got HTML? Bob's your uncle!), an app to eliminate the need for terminals in building and shipping websites. One in bun.sh, one in zstandard on pub.dev. Can't wait to launch it!
My LinkedIn feed is largely about AI. My fediverse feed is largely about AI. They are not the same.
I hear wobbly heads are not quite "professional" enough, so now the background of my landing page moves instead.
For the first time, https://ident.me served over 10,000,000 unique IPs yesterday. That's over a total of 380,000,000 requests
(more than 4000 per second, about 138,000,000,000 per year). It still runs on a single VPS. Stats at the bottom of the page.
direnv + nix + process-compose keep the docker away.
I had delayed offsite backups for too long. Being responsible for others' data helped me prioritize it. Taken care of, I believe in the most convenient and resilient way possible. Offering to help others with their setup!
Choc switches: nocturnal @ silent 20g linear feel too light and I press keys accidentally; twilight @ silent 35g linear feel mushy; sunset @ 40g/55g tactile feel too heavy. What do I do? 🥹
Moving to a split 40% keyboard got me to improve my setup in completely unexpected ways. Love the vertical display on the go. Setup.
#splitkeyboard fans out there, any thoughts on this layout? Trying to get ready for the TOTEM.

Leaving myself a note for accessible HTML5.
Wondering how to <blockquote/>? The blockquote element has a great answer.

The most useful tiny static page I have the pleasure to host is https://pcarrier.com/color
Puts a random color in the URL when none specified.
You can change it, link it, etc.
ForEach($dev in Get-PnpDevice|Where-Object{$_.Status -eq 'Unknown'}){pnputil /remove-device $dev.InstanceId}
I baffles me that so many here seem to think AI can only make "slop". Have you used a modern coding agent? Guided it, asked to make code more idiomatic, to clean things up with some pointers to your dislikes? The end result is a bump in productivity and code quality for me. But maybe I'm just a sloppy engineer to begin with.
