Nesties and Frames Fun

Image
This card was created using nesties
Image
This card was created using nesties, a cuttlebug die and a crafty individuals sentiments stamp. The stamp was given to me by Alison, thanks.
Image
This card was created using some of the negatives from the card above
Image
Using the oval scroll nesties an aperture, an acetate piece and larger frame were created. An image was stamped onto the acetate and then images and a sentiment were stamped onto the card. The paper at the top is the same as the paper inside and has been decorated using a Martha Stewart punch

And finally a wall hanger

Embossing

Image
Got a couple of new sizzix embossing folders from the Dome so I've been trying them out. The frame one is fab and the glittered rub ons fit perfectly inside them - thanks Maz. I have now ordered a set for myself!!!! The first layer is embossed onto black card and then rubbed over with gold brilliance ink. The second layer is green leaf coloured card with like a gold shimmer to it, again purchased at the Dome and run through the bug using another new folder. Then I sanded over the top and distressed the edges with my paper distresser. Third layer, a piece of plain black card run throught he bug using the swiss dots embossing folder and rubbed over with gold brilliance ink. Fourth layer just a piece of plain green card and finally mounted the whole lot onto a piece of plain black mount board and added a piece of green organza ribbon.

4 x 4 Hangers

Image
Hilda over on Lotstodo is holding a 4x4 swap on an open theme but they must have some sort of hanger, so I've been playing around with my embossing folders and my nesties again and these are what I came up with. I just used a piece of organza ribbon for the hangers. They do look much better in real life but it's hard to get a good photo with the kind of weather we've been having lately!!!

Something Different

Image
Was having a play around with yet more Dome purchases yesterday. Was quite impressed with myself that I managed to put apetures in my cards using the nesties and they are not badly lined up either!!! Also got a plate of shimmer paint things, a bit like H2O's but another make which I can't remember. Anyway, I painted the dragonflies with these, they are very subtle colours but very glimmery. The dragonfly on the black background is done by stamping the image with versamark and then brushing mica pigment over it and brushing the excess off. Thought it turned out quite well considering!!! Will add sentiments when I decide what to use them for.

Door Hanger - Lotstodo Challenge

Image
A couple of weeks ago I had a crafty evening round at Maz's. Kate also dropped in for a coffee and catch up. Maz gave us a project to do, decorate a door hanger. So, I made mine for Kate and Kate is altering hers for me. I have to say, I am a tad worried as Kate is very heavily into PINK!!!!! Anyway, that's another story!! Her craft room has been christened 'the beach hut', hence the sign for her door. Giving it to her at the Dome today, hope she likes it.

Domino & Bottle Cap Swap

Image
Andrea over on Lotstodo is hosting a bottle cap and domino swap. I hammered my bottle tops flat, punched out various papers and images, added words and / or embellishments and attached them to the bottle caps, linked 3 together using jump rings and a piece of chain and added a charm, or in the case of the one on the left, the bottom of a zip!!!!
Image
These are the larger foam dominos. I lightly coloured them with distressed alcohol inks and then stamped the various images using black stazon. I added marmalade distress stickles on the crown of the first one, a utee star on the middle one and a black clay heart coloured with silver dabbers on the Mona one.
Image
I decorated the edges with window lead after I'd run them through the cuttlebug and applied some black acrylic dabber paint.

A Few Simple Cards

Image
Got loads of birthdays and a couple of anniversaries in October and the beginning of November, so had to make a start on a few cards. They are only very simple as the people receiving them, don't really appreciate them - mostly family!!!

This first one was inspired by Sue (ex Paper Paradise)

She was holding a class yesterday and showed me the cards she was using as samples. I fell in love with the 'green' one on her blog, no surprise there then!!! So created something similar. The image on the one I made is a rub on, kindly given to me by Maz, rubbed onto a piece of cork, kindly supplied by Hilda. I love the way the rub on crinkled as I tore the piece of cork off!!

Image
Again very simple, a couple of pieces of paper, joined by a piece of ribbon. A flower, a couple of leaves and a sentiment added

Image
Again a couple of different papers, a piece of sticky lace to cover the join. A couple of skeleton leaves and a paper leaf, 5 small flowers bound together and a bow added to hide the join

Image
I found this car on the internet, printed it 4 times and decoupaged it. It obviously looks flat on the photo, but it's actually come out pretty well

Gothic Arches - Autumn

Image
This weeks Gothic Arch theme is autumn. I stamped my Mona and placed her in an embossed cuttlebug frame smeared over with distress inks. I cut the leaves and acorns with my cuttlebug and water coloured them to get the paler colours. The backing is a piece of tumble dryer sheet sprayed with adirondak colour wash sprays. Still deciding whether or not to add a word!!!!

Lotstodo Challenge - Black, orange and one other

Image
I've bought a few new books recently and this piece is made from inspiration in one of them, but for the life of me I can't remember which one, when I find it again I'll let you know!!!

I made a template of the shape and then cut it out of metal. Did some embossing with the Cuttlebug, rubbed it over with black acrylic dabber paint. The frame housing the skeleton image is made from grungeboard and painted with orange acrylic dabber paint, sanded down and rubber over with black stazon. A piece of orange metalic foil tape was added across the top, along with eyelets and an inside out bottle top with an image. The word 'wicked' was added along the bottom.

This piece will double up as my 'something for halloween' swap over on Lotstodo.

Bees Wax Canvas - Dezinaworld Challenge - Wings

Image
June over at Dezinaworld is holding a Challenge with a fabulous prize attached. Check it out here. All you have to do is create a piece of art around the theme of wings.

I decided to do something I wouldn't normally do, I wanted to do something different, so I based my canvas on the colour blue, not a favourite of mine at all, but I am pleased with how it's turned out.

I used acrylic dabbers to cover the canvas, aqua and cloudy blue and stream to frame it. I laid out my various pieces, coloured the silver no 2 and the small fragment square (which Caz kindly shared with me and Hilda at our meet last week) with stream alcohol ink, used the dictionary definition of wings in the background, coloured a green admit one ticket with blue paint, scrunched it up and tore it in half, added a couple of paper flowers, an image and quote from Lisa's Altered Art and chalked a wing. I covered the whole piece in bees wax.

This is a side view, all the sides are the same. The pattern is stamped with broken china distress ink.

Lotstodo Week 36 - Tissue Paper

Image
We were having a wooden spoon swap on Lotstodo Forum, which Ang organised, so I started to play with wooden utensils. For this piece I ended up using a spoon and a spatula. I cut their clothing from card and painted it. I added lace, ribbon, beads and a flower to the bride, a bit of gold netting for a vail, a bit of ribbon and a fancy shape coloured with gold acrylic and some liquid pearls for her tiara. Her hair is espresso acrylic paint. The grooms hair is black wool. Both of their faces were stamped onto tissue paper and mod podge was used to stick them down. A piece of 12 x 12 paper was stuck to a piece of corrugated for stability and they were both siliconed onto it. With one of the offcut pieces I die cut 'I DO ...' using the round table sizzix set of alphabets and attached it to the bottom with a piece of ribbon.

Mega Swap - Lotstodo

Image
This is the mega swap piece that I made for the swap on the Lotstodo Forum which Andrea arranged. My maker is Ellen and my reciever is Ju. Andrea set the criteria for the swap and mine was to use, a canvas the wrong way round, incorporate brown and silver, use a word and a number and a piece of metal. The background is a tumble dryer sheet sprayed with glimmer mist and distressed re-inkers. I painted the top of the canvas silver and the sides brown. I added the image, the various metal pieces, the silver bow and the gems to the crown. I cut a piece of wire mesh to fit the canvas and stapled it to the wood, added the 4 brown buttons, cut the letters from brown card with my new storybook cartridge for the cricut machine to spell out No1 Prince.

Lotstodo Week 34 - Paper Craze

Image
This weeks Lotstodo Challenge was to use papers. I've chosen this scrapbook page which I recently made as part of an album for a work colleagues wedding as Iused lots of different papers to create it. The large brown flower was cut from a 12 x 12 page, the piece across the middle was torn from a different 12 x 12 page, the background is a 12 x 12 page and the letters were cut from a sheet of blue paper.

Altered Tin

Image
Maz gave us all a tin to alter, but unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of it naked!!!! Been as though it was given to me by Maz I thought I would carry through the theme from the step. I cut the letters using the cuttlebug, stuck them onto the lid and covered it in sticky backed silver foil. Using a paper stump I carefully smoothed out the foil and traced around the letters. Using meadow, juniper, lettuce and willow alcohol inks I coloured the lid. Once dry I used my black stazon pad to hi-lite the letters.

Image
The inside of the lid is covered in a piece of road map, and the quote is stamped directly onto it, again using black stazon. I then masked this off and stamped the hands over it (again carrying on with the step tradition) using olive green stazon. For the bottom I stamped the same car image 3 times and decoupaged the car and stamped journey down the right hand side in peeled paint distressed ink.

Image
Hilda kindly sent me some printed words on Safmat, so I used 4 of them around the edges of the tin - journey, dream, travel, destiny

Image
....... life is a journey

Quick Cards

Image
Image
Made these 4 quick cards by stamping onto glossy card with black stazon, then adding the lights alcohol inks to create the colour on the background. Cut some shapes with the Cricut, used distressed inks spritzed with water to colour them, attached to the base card and stamped happy birthday. The flowers were cut with the cuttlebug.

Lotstodo Week 31 - Recycled

Image

Image

Image

The canvas's for all the above are made from a cardboard box. I tore pieces of the top layer to reveal the corrugated underneath and covered them with gesso. To the top 2 I added black acrylic paint and some stamping using black stazon and the to the bottom one I used gold acrylic paint and stamped some flourishes and lines in gold brilliance ink. The images are from Lisa's Altered Art. Recycled bits on the top one include the arrow which is part of a coke can, the wire for the hanger and the lace is from an old piece of net curtain. The bottom 2 just have an old hinge on the top to hang them from!!! German scrap, rub ons, gems, ribbon, were all added. Some dies were cut including the letters using the cuttlebug, some pieces were then embossed like the copper wings and the silver arrow.

They were made for Maz, Polly and Sue. Maz and Sue have lent me loads of stuff over the last few weeks, mainly to assist me with my wedding album and both Sue and Polly keep showering me with items to alter for a challenge, so I just wanted to say 'thank you' to them all.
