How I get my cat (who loves being outside) to come inside from the balcony: ❌ Call the cat inside ❌ Lure the cat inside with treats ❌ Corner the cat behind the chair so I can herd her inside ✅ Go inside and close the door as if I am leaving her outside on purpose, with no choice. Wait 5 seconds. Open door. Cat runs inside. Every single time.

I usually make my smoothie with baby spinach and I was out of baby spinach but I had my spinach-arugula mix that I use for salads so I used that instead and let me tell you THAT ARUGULA IS DOING MORE THAN ITS FAIR SHARE. Wow.

You can be driving into the sunset with Black Sabbath blasting and the windows down, and forget for a second that you’re a middle-aged parent going to pick up your child. But when your bedtime reminder starts dinging in the middle of N.I.B….you’ll remember.

The next four weekends = a parenting whirlwind of events: anime con, sleepovers, birthday, graduation, wrestling tournament, friend birthday, driving test…. I think school ends sometime in there too.

Doing a 36 hour fast today and thinking about how when a certain group of people get into something it becomes an Official Thing™️ even though lots of other people have been doing it for a long long time. Like when my kids were little I usually skipped breakfast because everything was chaos in the morning so I’d just be gulping coffee and throwing granola bars. Sometimes wouldn’t eat lunch either because by the time I got one kid eating the other one was crying etc. And then my friends and I learned that what we were doing was called Intermittent Fasting.

I'm getting back into my early morning routine this week. Up early + out for a run Monday and Tuesday. Today it was raining so I slept in a bit (which was needed). Tomorrow: Back at it, up early and out for a few miles before the workday begins. I feel so much better and have so much more energy when I stick to this routine, but I know it will be tough in the morning... So I'm saying this in a public place to keep myself a little more accountable. Might as well use anticipatory social shaming to my advantage (even though I know all of y'all are too nice to actually shame me).

Dad and Cheryl are here visiting for the weekend. Dad's latest interest has been making sourdough bread. It's been a laborious process but ultimately triumphant (shared via text/photo/video with us). So they walk in and we exchange hugs and hellos and start chatting, suddenly he pulls half a loaf of bread out and says, "I need butter!"

anyway the sourdough was amazing.

Just had the 40th session with my D&D group that's been going for 2 years. We're all busy and have kids and responsibilities blah blah blah so we aim to play every other week and still don't always pull it off. But it's SO GREAT. I laugh so much, we have a great time, I have no idea how most of it works, I forget what dice to use, our campaign will probably last 100 years because it takes us so long to do anything, it's fabulous.
