Ahhh. Like I noted, we had LOTS of family in town this weekend. It was great. I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family with strong foundations in Christ. But- ....we're all exhausted now. Last night- since everyone was in town and no one will be around for his real birthday, we had a birthday party for Luke. My little guy is turning 2. And we had a THOMAS party! (Julie- I would have invited the boys- if it wasn't all family!!) The boys were at daycare on Tuesday and when I brought them home and they saw the decorations- they were in heaven. Luke started naming off all the trains he saw on the table cloth. He loved his conductor hat and when they saw these-
--they were pumped.
I spent all morning making them and the gasp in Ian's breath and the glow in Luke's eyes- made it all worth it. Plus it was super fun. I love to do this and 2 kids' birthdays a year- give me a great excuse. Someday they're going to say,..."Mom, can we buy my cake this year?" and I'm going to weep. The party was nice. We just had pizza and veggies and then of course cake and ice cream. Luke sang a precious happy birthday tune to himself and tried to snuff out the candles. Then at about 8 he said, "I go to bed, Mom." So we said good night to everyone and my sleepy little angel- layed right down to bed. My fireball- notsomuch. He played with all Luke's new Thomas toys for a big part of the evening and had a hard time leaving all the action. Right now they're napping and I wouldn't be surprised if they slept into dinner time tonight.
School starts in 12 days. Yikes. I'm ready. I'm ready for routine and it's been a wonderful summer with no regrets.
(sigh) onward.

look at your skills! i'm seriously impressed. I can't believe how quickly this summer has flown by. I think I'm going to try and teach part-time, but nothing is fully lined up yet (we start after Labor Day). Love the pictures as well.
Joy, Your cake pictures are awesome! Great work; I'm might have to hire you sometime!:)
WAAAy impressed with the cakes. I can't wait until we can get out Sam's old Thomas stuff for Jack.
Really? Two homemade-perfect-replicas-of-Thomas-and-Percy cakes? So you're saying buying the "display" strawberry shortcake at Safeway and hour before Jada's first party makes me a bad mom? I'm getting really tired of you showing me up.
Okay, but I really do love all your advice! Having ideas like using words and giving choices are so helpful when new parenting issue arises because sometimes you are just unprepared when it is your first child. Thanks for always giving me something to work with. I will definitely take a raincheck on that coffee!
