Sad...

How sad....

The Boston Globe reported today that 3,117 members of the U.S. Armed forces have died in Iraq and 23,417 have been wounded since the war in Iraq began in March 2003. Say a prayer for the families of these men and women...it can't be easy.

Troop Surge?

The President's speech the other night sounded a lot like Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon during the Vietnam war. If you've studied the time period (or lived it), these two presidents would say "We're winning the war...but to ensure victory, we need to send more troops". Yeah, 10 years and over $600 billion dollars (todays costs) and over 58,000 American lives later...

John F. Kennedy once said,

The troops will march in; the bands will play; the crowds will cheer…Then we will be told we have to send in more troops. It’s like taking a drink. The effect wears off, and you have to take another.”

What happens when this doesn't solve the problem?

I don't know if it is me or not, but I don't think this president gets it. How dumb could you be? We had 160,000 troops in Iraq during this war and it didn't solve the problem then. If we send more troops, what incentive will the Iraqi's have in securing there country? None, because we'll be doing it and paying for it!

I hope the democrats have a back bone for once and refuse to provide funding for additional troops. We certainly need to keep paying for the troops we currently have, but no more for new troops. It is time for us to wrap this mess up.

The families with troops overseas need a break. It is an awful experience having a family member over there. My twin brother was there for 14 months. Sleepless nights, phone calls with mortar rounds going off in the back ground. Talk about avoiding the news. Just hearing about Iraq would give me an anxiety attack. He's back and safe now (thank god) but I still have family there. My cousin is on his second tour with the Marines. Please keep him and all of our troops in your prayers. These brave men and women need our support and prayers for a safe return home.
