The Melbourne tramway network is a major form of public transport in Melbourne, Australia. As of June 2011, the network consisted of 250 km of track, 487 trams, 30 routes and 1763 stops. This postcard shows the different types of trams that has served in the tram ways since electric trams were introduced in 1906.

The WAGR P class also known as the ARG / QR National P/2500 class, is a class of narrow gauge diesel-electric locomotives built between 1989  to 1991 for the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR or Westrail). P 2017 is named City of Geraldton. It is used to haul Iron Ore Trains in Western Australia.

Gleneleg Tram, Adelaide, Australia.

The Glenelg Trams is a 15-kilometre route from the centre of Adelaide  to the beach-side suburb of Glenelg in South Australia It is Adelaide’s only remaining tramway and is part of the integrated Adelaide Metro public transport network. A 1929-vintage  H Class tram  (pictured on the post card)  provided all services on the Glenelg line, until January 2006 when the first members of a new fleet of modern Flexity  trams entered service.

The Melbourne tramway network is a major form of public transport in Melbourne. Trams have operated continuously in Melbourne since 1884, with the opening of a horse tram line in Fairfield, since then they have become a distinctive part of Melbourne's character and feature in tourism and travel advertising. Melbournes cable tram system opened in 1885, and expanded to one of the largest in the world, with 75km of double track. The first electric tram line opened in 1889, but closed only a few years later in 1894. In 1906 electric tram systems were opened in St Kilda and Essendon, marking the start of continuous operation of Melbourne's electric trams.

Iron Ore Trains, Western Australia, Australia

ImageThe ore trains used by the minerals industry in Australia are the country's longest and sometimes heaviest - commonly 2KM long with three diesel engines hauling 200 wagons, each of which carries 100 tons of ore. This is Hamersley Iron's Class EMD SD50S locomotive 6063 hauling a train in Pilbara Region in Australia.

ImageThe Ghan follows in the footsteps of the early explorers to the Heart of Australia traveling from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs. This particular train showcases Australia's Aboriginal art.

ImageFlinders Street Station, the central terminus for the rail system in Melbourne. It is a meeting place for people, expressed simply as "meet me under the clocks", a refernce to the clocks above the main entrance.
