The Australian media too often report the nation as a compliant ally of the US, UK and the Western alliance but ask few questions about why and what it really involves.  <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Declassified Australia</a> challenges this narrative by publishing in-depth, unique and largely hidden stories that reveal the reality of Australia’s relationships with both democracies and dictatorships. From the arms trade to whistleblowers, defence policy to surveillance, espionage to free speech, Declassified Australia also examines relations with other nations beyond the Anglo-Western alliance, including Israel, China, Russia, and more. Founded independently, Declassified Australia has been inspired by the work of online news outlets like <a href="https://declassifieduk.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">DeclassifiedUK</a>. The vital conversation it publishes includes articles by both established and new writers providing original and noteworthy content that uncovers largely unknown aspects of Australia in the Asia-Pacific region and the world. Established in 2021 and edited by investigative journalists, authors and film-makers <a href="https://petercronau.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Peter Cronau</a> and <a href="https://antonyloewenstein.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Antony Loewenstein</a>, we're looking to build a community of supporters who will back our work financially and contribute to vital public interest journalism.  Declassified Australia is a unique Australian media outlet with big plans for growth. We want to publish more original stories, launch a podcast and increase our reach across Australia and around the world. Our work has been <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/media/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">covered</a> in the local and international media.  Since launching, we're <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/08/08/labor-and-assange-burying-the-politics/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">published</a> <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/07/16/exclusive-inside-labors-assange-game-plan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">unique stories</a> that generate big interest including on Australian and New Zealand <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/02/28/eyes-over-the-pacific/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">spying</a> in the Pacific, the Australian government's reluctance to rescue Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from extradition to the US, <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2021/12/09/australia-captured/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">the role</a> of Australia's leading think-tank ASPI and its ties to the military-industrial complex, weapons dealers <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/03/31/reputation-laundering/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">infiltrating</a> Australian schools, newly declassified <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/10/16/blood-in-the-archive/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">documents</a> on Australia's brutal role in East Timor, and the <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/2022/09/22/declassified-australia-exposes-and-analyses-a-massive-secret-propaganda-operation-being-run-out-of-the-us-that-has-been-buried-by-western-media/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">growing usage</a> of social media for propaganda operations. Our correspondent, human rights lawyer Kellie Tranter, <a href="https://declassifiedaus.org/media/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">recently attended</a> the National Press Club in Canberra asking about Assange. Independent media has never been more important in an age of corporatised newspeak and pro-war propaganda.
