London was a little slow for me this year. One of my good friends and major sources of supply had left town for the weekend and consequently the buying was off. Normally, I could count on him to pay for my trip. This year I’ll be lucky to cover my room and board with what I was able to scratch up at the big Saatchi Gallery show and the equally entertaining PBFA fair. (Assuming, of course, I’m able to sell them.)

No complaints, though. Each year I survive, the trade seems to be less about books and more about friends. Anne Marie and I had some lovely times with colleagues who have moved over into the friendship category. Just think, I used to regard them as competitors! And always now, at my advanced age, everywhere I go, the theme song is the same – the Rolling Stones and their nasal whine

Well, this could be the last time

Maybe the last time, I don’t know
Oh no, oh no

Oh, no! Not this time, please.

Maybe the next time, I dunno. I’ve still got a lot of books to sell!
